Lake Ann Golf LLC

Lake Ann, Michigan, USANorthern Michigan

Lake Ann Golf LLC features 27 holes divided into three varied nines that offer a balanced mix of straightforward fairways and strategic challenges. The public course combines rolling parkland terrain with improved greens and bunkers, creating an accessible yet engaging test for golfers of all levels.

Course Overview

Lake Ann Golf LLC offers a compelling golf experience at its 27-hole layout spread across three distinct nines, each presenting its own challenges and scenic appeal. Located in the quiet surroundings of Lake Ann, Michigan, this public facility provides a blend of rolling terrain and strategically placed hazards that engage players of varying skill levels without overwhelming them. The course combines elements of parkland design with subtle elevation changes and generous fairways, making it approachable for beginners while retaining interest for more seasoned golfers.

The three courses—known commonly as the Blue, Red, and Green courses—vary in length and difficulty, allowing guests to tailor their round to preferred yardage and pace. Well-maintained fairways invite solid drives, though occasional doglegs and undulating greens demand thoughtful shot placement. Bunkers guard many of the greens, adding a layer of challenge that requires strategic thinking more than brute strength.

As a public course, Lake Ann Golf LLC emphasizes accessibility while striving to maintain quality conditions. Recent player feedback highlights improvements in green conditions and ongoing efforts to restore bunkers, which have been focal points for course maintenance teams. The variety in hole lengths delivers a well-rounded test featuring long par-4s and par-5s, along with shorter par-3s that reward precise iron play.

Beyond the course itself, the club offers a sizable driving range and a putting green, perfect for warming up or honing short game skills. While service has seen mixed reviews, management appears responsive to player concerns, suggesting a course steadily moving toward fulfilling its potential. The serene landscape and thoughtful routing provide golfers a peaceful setting where the natural rhythm of the game takes center stage.

For those planning a visit, it is advisable to check tee time availability ahead given occasional operational delays or frost holds during colder months. Walking the course is encouraged, with well-marked paths and manageable footing, though golfers should wear appropriate shoes for the rolling terrain. Lake Ann Golf LLC provides a solid mid-Michigan option for players seeking a diverse layout with a casual, welcoming atmosphere.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by its three separate nine-hole loops that provide diverse playing experiences, ranging from tight doglegs to open fairways. Several holes frame small lakes and mature trees that influence shot strategy without overwhelming players. Recent renovations have improved green conditions, and the course features a large driving range and dedicated putting green for pre-round preparation.

Editing to update as of 6/23 I’ve played here a few times since my initial visit, the course layout is too beautiful to not play a handful of times per year. I’m pleased to share that some of my concerns have been fixed. The greens are in MUCH better condition, no tipped over portapottys, and I think the price of play has gone down. If they can get the bunkers fixed this would be an amazing place to play, I will say I did see some bunker sand in the back parking lot when I was leaving so I’m hopeful they’ll get it fixed soon. I’ve added it to my summer rotation though and am pretty pleased with what they have to offer. Original review- Let me start by saying this course has immense potential, 27 rolling and doglegged holes across three courses with a large driving range and a nice sized putting green to practice on. With that being said they have a little while til they reach that potential. Firstly the cost is outrageous. 72 dollars for 9 holes and one cart for two golfers? You can take the extra 10 minutes and drive to the dunes to play 18 holes with a cart for 25 dollars. We golfed today (4/28) and we were the only tee time before 11am, they couldn’t even call and tell us we were on a frost hold. We showed up at 10:00am and had to wait until 10:30 before someone even got there (there was no one there to answer the phones) When we asked if they were done with the frost hold they mentioned “oh yeah we’re done I’m just late” we were in a bit of a time crunch but oh well, excited to play the course we were! We headed out to the first hole of the blue course and noticed that the blue course had red flag and the red course had blue flags. (Not a big deal at all but this takes no effort to get right) the greens are riddled with disease. We were verbally abused on hole 5 by two old men (not the courses fault but shows what kind of people golf here) and there was a mower on the fairway of hole 9 when we were teeing off. All of that with some small stuff like balls ALL over hole one fair way (not range balls, about 30-40 playing balls consisting of Bridgestone, top flight, Nike, etc) and portapottys being tipped over make the experience less than memorable. Hopefully all these issues will be fixed in the coming years because as I said mistwood has a great layout but terrible execution

Hours of operation a posted to 6pm. My father and I stopped in to hit some range balls around 520pm. We saw a sign that said range closed. Meanwhile a gentleman walked out with a bucket of balls 30 seconds before we walked in. We asked why he was able to. The staff member said “he is only hitting about 10 balls, and he’s a member. We are close to picking up the balls.” Catering to a member vs non member for the driving range is a load of you know what. I am very dissatisfied with the customer service we received. I guess it is why I have not golfed there in over 10 years and will not give them a penny going forward. Thank you mistwood for making it clear of where not to spend my money to golf

Updated review 9/20/24: Updated review, see below for two prior reviews over the past 4 years. The courses have continued to be improved. It's slow progress, but it's progress, and I'm happy! Greens and fairways are in great shape. Some tee boxes need help, and some have recently been re-worked and seeded. Some bunkers still need work, but local rules apply (rake and place, or if the bunker is flagged, pull ball out of bunker with no penalty). These three nines are really nice tracks, and beautiful...it's up north golf, and they are tough (narrow, hilly, with heavy rough/heather...plus a few lakes). I love the course, and it's being improved, so try it out! Review 2022: I'm updating this review as the old review is 2 years old. As noted below, this course came under new management a few years ago, after a decade of neglect. It's taken some time, but the new owners are following through on their commitment to improve the course. To be clear, it's not yet done, but they've worked to fix the ancient irrigation system, they weeded the fairways, the greens are in the best condition I've ever seen since their first 3-5 years in operation, and the bunkers are about 30% of the way back (some are still not touched, but others are fixed and ready). This is a great layout with 27 holes of fine golf...get out and enjoy it before it's really busy late in the season! Original review (2020): I've been golfing Mistwood since it opened in late '90's. Plenty of reviews below detail a poorly managed course. Let's be clear...that's old news and it's under new management that is improving the course. Granted...it still needs work, but it's better in August of 2020 than at anytime in the past 15 years. It takes years to reverse weeds and get grass and bunkers in great shape after a decade of neglect. The layout of the Blue/Red courses is fantastic, with nice elevation changes and beautiful rolling hills. I play it as much as I can and urge everyone to support the new owner so that this course can come back to the condition it was once in.

I was a little wary of playing a round here until I did so a little over a month ago. While the bunkers could still use some attention, I found no sign of diseased greens (in fact, they were in excellent shape, I thought). It a tough course with a nice mix of tight and open fairways, some punishing (but not ball-losing) rough and just the right blend of long par 3s and some longer holes. Additionally, I slept straight through my alarm and the management were very understanding when my cardmates asked to push our tee time nearly 30 minutes! In fact, the gentleman at the clubhouse was very kind and we all had a good laugh about it when I did finally show up. Would definitely play here again.
