Timber Wolf Golf Club stands out as an accessible yet strategically rewarding 18-hole public course in Northern Michigan. With inviting fairways, a mix of drivable par-4s, and a welcoming atmosphere, it offers players of all levels an engaging round complemented by naturally wooded surroundings.

Course Overview

Timber Wolf Golf Club, located in Kalkaska, Michigan, offers an engaging blend of challenge and accessibility within its thoughtfully crafted 18-hole layout. This public course stretches across gently rolling terrain framed by natural woodland and open meadows, providing a refreshing escape while testing your shot-making from start to finish. With wide fairways welcoming players of all levels, Timber Wolf ensures both novices and experienced golfers can navigate the course without frustration, yet still encounter strategic elements that reward precision.

The course plays from multiple tees, allowing players to adjust the difficulty based on their skill and stamina. Notable are the two drivable par-4s that invite an aggressive approach, balanced by longer holes demanding accuracy off the tee and keen club selection. The back nine introduces more subtle elevation changes and tighter corridors which increase in difficulty, offering a gratifying contrast to the front nine’s quicker pace.

Maintenance standards reflect a club focused on delivering solid value with greens generally well-kept, although conditions can vary with seasonal moisture. Players will find bunkers placed thoughtfully near the greens, guarding putting surfaces with enough challenge to keep strategy top of mind without overwhelming. On-site amenities include a modest pro shop and a welcoming clubhouse where players can relax and prepare before or after their round. The relaxed pace of play and affordable rates make Timber Wolf a popular pick for locals and visitors alike seeking a quality Michigander golf experience without the premium price tag.

Ideal for those traveling Northern Michigan’s scenic routes, Timber Wolf provides a memorable day of golf mixed with natural beauty and approachable challenge. Players are encouraged to time their visits to avoid wetter periods which can affect green conditions but generally will find the course reliable and rewarding throughout most of the season. Whether looking for a practice round, casual outing, or a challenging 18 holes, Timber Wolf stands out as a solid destination on Michigan’s golf map.

Course Highlights

The course is highlighted by two drivable par-4 holes that blend risk and reward. Tucked into mixed hardwoods, Timber Wolf balances wide fairways with well-placed bunkers guarding moderately contoured greens. The back nine introduces more elevation and tighter shot windows, challenging players to adjust strategy amid changing terrain. Friendly staff and an inviting clubhouse add to the welcoming environment.

This is such a beautiful course !! We compared all three local courses and admittedly chose this course due to the excellent pricing. It ended up being picturesque, challenging and very well maintained. Ellie at the front desk made us feel right at home, she was very friendly and helped us pick the right cigar for our trip out. We will be back, I highly recommend Timber Wolf Golf Club. Thank you for a fun day!

Absolutely beautiful course, Great price, Great fairways and great greens. I don't know that I've ever played on faster greens in northern Michigan. only advice I can give is $7 a dog is a bit much. Thanks for having us out.

Beautiful course with some challenging holes. Friendly staff got me checked in and set up for the round. The course was fairly maintained with pretty wide fairways. The greens were in decent condition, but some were very wet while others were pretty dry. The back 9 offered more of a challenge, while the front was pretty quick and easy. The course was not crowded and allowed me to set my own pace. I will definitely play again, especially at $35 including the cart.

Played behind a group of 8, with 6 individuals golfing, in which the club house did nothing about it when informed, but deliver them more alcohol, they were already intoxicated. I went to address it after my round and was told to address it with Gordy (the owner) by the employee working the club house that evening. As a standing member I can guarantee you that I will not be renewing my membership in the future. In my eyes they are more concerned with the sale of their alcohol than their membership or the casual golfer. And honestly this is not the first time I've had this happen out there over the years. 6/9/25 You're response is incorrect, 1st off we originally said something to the employee who brought them more alcohol out, obviously she failed to say anything to the individual who was in charge or the person in charge didn't care enough to correct it. Secondly I didn't not do any yelling, I simply started a conversation with your employee who wanted nothing to do with the situation, not the first time this has happened. I understand that you're going to take your employees word, but I'm going to tell you they are covering were rear end. Now, let's discuss how this same intoxicated group left the golf club permises with your golf cart and crossed M72 to drop off their clubs back at their residence. I suppose you're employee is going to say that they were not aware of this either. This group does this every single time they golf there. I'm sure that your insurance provider would love to know that this is taking place. I wonder who would be thrown under the bus if this caused some type of accident. You might want to have another discussion with your employee's to the get real story.
