Harbor Point Golf Club

Harbor Springs, Michigan, USANorthern Michigan

Harbor Point Golf Club offers 18 holes of coastal golf where wind-swept fairways meet lakefront terrain. Open to the public in spring and fall, this course challenges golfers with strategic shots along a walker-friendly layout and stunning Michigan shoreline views.

Course Overview

Harbor Point Golf Club presents an engaging challenge along the rugged shores of northern Michigan’s Lake Michigan coastline. This 18-hole course combines classic design principles with the raw beauty of a coastal layout, placing golfers in a landscape where wind and water play as vital a role as the terrain itself. The course is known for its open fairways that blend seamlessly with the natural dunes and native grasses, offering clear sightlines while demanding precision, especially as gusts sweep in off the lake to test every shot.

Players encounter a varied route that balances forgiving stretches with tighter, strategic holes carved into the shoreline elevations. The greens hold subtle breaks and slope gently, though their challenge increases with changing winds and occasional moisture drawn inland from the lake. Harbor Point’s design encourages careful club selection and course management, making it equally rewarding for mid-handicappers and seasoned players seeking strategic depth.

The course operates publicly during spring and fall seasons before reopening to members for the summer. This availability provides an inviting window for visitors to experience its superb conditions and scenic qualities without the pressure of exclusivity. Those planning a visit will find the course walker-friendly; the terrain is primarily gentle and well-maintained paths allow for an enjoyable trek, though sturdy shoes are recommended to navigate varied footing, from sandy edges to lush fairway turf.

The clubhouse offers a refined yet relaxed atmosphere with dining options that have earned high praise from guests, adding an extra layer of satisfaction after a round. Staff are known for their welcoming approach and readiness to assist, especially in guiding first-time visitors through the layout.

Harbor Point Golf Club stands out for blending authentic coastal golf with approachability, making it a unique destination in the Lake Michigan region. The interplay of wind, water, and course design ensures that no two rounds feel the same while inviting golfers to engage thoughtfully with every hole and capture vistas few other courses can offer.

Course Highlights

The course features a series of holes along Lake Michigan that deliver expansive views and variable wind conditions, demanding thoughtful club selection. The property’s open fairways transition into pockets of native grasses and sandy bunkers that shape the playing corridors. Maintenance standards ensure firm fairways and smooth greens throughout the seasons accessible to the public. The clubhouse complements the experience with notable dining options praised by visitors.

Golfed today 18 holes and it was wonderful. My mom and I never golf here before so we were new to the course. Everyone was so nice and pleasant even though we weren’t members. The course was very well kept up. Very happy we choose to golf here and will definitely be back next year!

Fantastic course! Very glad we were able to grab a tee time in June before turning private for the summer. The course has a ton of character, is immaculately maintained and staff are extremely welcoming. Incredible views of the lake on some holes. We had some trouble navigating hole to hole, but staff kept us on track :) Overall highly recommend if able to play in spring or fall while public.

This review is speaking to the restaurant Only: This course is not public year round, so please check website before going - however, the best lunch I've had in northern Michigan in a decade. The new changes they have made are amazing. Pictured, Chicken salad croissant & avocado bacon egg salad.

Outstanding, classic course that is one of the more walker-friendly in the area. You don't need your driver on many holes. The entire course is in superb condition. Open to the public through June 18 and after September 3. Highly recommended!
