Dunmaglas Golf Club

Charlevoix, Michigan, USANorthern Michigan

Dunmaglas Golf Club offers an 18-hole test steeped in northern Michigan’s rugged landscape. With challenging greens and strategic elevation changes, this public course rewards precision and thoughtful play amid impressive water views and natural terrain.

Course Overview

Dunmaglas Golf Club in Charlevoix, Michigan offers a rugged and rewarding 18-hole layout that challenges golfers seeking a genuine test amid natural beauty. This public course unfolds across a landscape marked by rolling terrain with a mix of elevation changes, subtle water hazards, and fairways lined with native grasses and shaded by dense clusters of trees. Its character is less about pristine luxury and more about authentic golf, appealing especially to players who appreciate a thoughtful layout demanding precision and strategic shotmaking.

The course stretches close to 7,200 yards with a par 72 setup. Each hole offers a distinct challenge, from tight tee shots requiring accuracy through tree corridors to greens that reward careful approach shots but punish wayward ones. The greens, while known for their complexity and true roll, require careful reading and touch, making putting an integral part of scoring success here. Dunmaglas does not present a forgiving surface for those who prefer a straightforward round; instead, it invites golfers to engage all aspects of their game.

Surrounding the course are panoramic views that capture the essence of northern Michigan’s rugged charm. Elevated tee boxes on several holes offer glimpses of nearby Lake Michigan and the smaller inland lakes, creating a dynamic backdrop that shifts with the seasons. This setting is enhanced by a distinct openness on the course, allowing the wind to become a factor in club selection and shot trajectory.

Facilities at Dunmaglas focus squarely on the sport itself. The clubhouse is modest, reflecting the course’s emphasis on play over polish. Golf carts are serviceable and modern, but the experience here is purpose-built for those who come to focus on golf rather than amenities. Walking is permitted, and the terrain invites a steady pace, though players should bring footwear suited for uneven ground and occasional uphill lies.

Dunmaglas Golf Club is an invitation to seasoned golfers and adventurous players who seek a demanding challenge set against a striking northern Michigan landscape. Proper expectations set, this course delivers a competitive and memorable round where golf’s purest elements take center stage.

Course Highlights

Dunmaglas is defined by its challenging, elevated tees and complex greens that test putting precision. Scenic views of Lake Michigan and nearby inland lakes frame the course, while natural hazards and undulating fairways demand strategic choices on every hole. The course plays as a pure golf experience, emphasizing the game itself over luxury amenities.

Overall shit experience. You’re paying top dollar for what should be a $40 course. This course has the potential to be top 10 in the state but is extremely under kept. Greens are all cracked with dead patches. Fair ways are patchy. Tee boxes are in even, and practically dirt because the grass is dead. The clubhouse and carts are from the 1980’s. After all of this, they still charge $120 a round. I’ve played $50 courses better kept than this.

So much potential, just do some basic maintenance and this would be a gem. Very challenging course with many demanding tee shots. Would not go back.

This is a golfers golf course. This is not good for those looking for an experience beyond the golf (clubhouse, dining, etc). Come here to PLAY GOLF and you will be blown away. Excellent course in great condition. Crazy difficult greens in great condition. Terrible clubhouse. Terrible carts.

The course is amazing, it's definitely seen better days and the place seems understaffed but the experience was awesome. Such a good layout, it's difficult with some truly great holes. Number 7 might be my favorite of all time. Paolo is a great dude! Very welcoming, friendly, and funny. Just don't go here expecting a five star clubhouse or even a drink cart. We paid 75 each for the round and that was spot on. With a few basic improvements this place would be one of the top courses in the state. Just set your expectations appropriately when you pull up and you'll have a great time.
