Spruce Run Golf Course

Acme, Michigan, USANorthern Michigan

Spruce Run Golf Course in Acme, Michigan, offers a challenging 18-hole parkland layout set amid gentle northern Michigan terrain. Known for its well-maintained fairways and strategic bunkering, it invites golfers of varying abilities to engage with a course that balances precision and playability.

Course Overview

Spruce Run Golf Course, located in Acme, Michigan, delivers a compelling test of golf set against the natural beauty of the northern Michigan landscape. This 18-hole public course presents a demanding, thoughtfully laid out parkland setting where precision off the tee is rewarded and errant shots face swift consequences. Stretching approximately 6,200 yards from the back tees, the course challenges golfers to maintain control amid well-conditioned fairways and greens, while providing an inviting experience for intermediate and advanced players alike.

The layout unfolds over gently rolling terrain, surrounded by mature trees and intermittent water features that subtly shape strategy without overwhelming the player. Each hole offers a different challenge, whether it’s the well-placed sand bunkers guarding the greens or the undulating putting surfaces that require a steady touch and careful green reading. The course’s condition consistently draws praise, with meticulously maintained fairways that allow for confident shot-making and smooth greens that reward precision.

Spruce Run balances challenge with approachability. While players with lower handicaps will find the longer tees and tighter landing areas a stern examination of accuracy and course management, higher handicappers will appreciate that the course does not rely solely on length to present difficulty. Ample bailout zones provide thoughtful forgiveness, making it accessible to a wide range of skill levels.

Off the course, Spruce Run offers a welcoming clubhouse facility where players can relax post-round and enjoy scenic views stretching toward the nearby hills. The staff is known for friendly, attentive service, enhancing the overall visit. Visitors should prepare for walking conditions shaped by natural elevation changes; however, carts are available on request to ease navigation.

Whether it’s a first visit or a return trip, Spruce Run Golf Course rewards focused play with satisfying variety and natural charm, making it a noteworthy destination for those touring the Central Michigan golf scene.

Played the course with a group of 16, was keeping pace the entire time but was told to pick up pace multiple times and even asked to skip a hole….no one behind us?? Don’t understand. Finished the round in 3 hours and 50 minutes. Will not be back and will tell friends to look elsewhere for golf. Ranger needs to check his ego and attitude towards golfers.

This golf course is definitely worth the money. Played the tips from 6200 yards and shot an 88. (I’m currently a 9.6 handicap). It’s a difficult track for sure and makes you be very straight off the tee or else you’ll get punished. Great greens and fairways. Sand bunkers pristine. 👍🏼 Would play again if I’m ever in the area
