Sandpoint Elks Golf Course is a public 9-hole layout in northern Idaho that offers a varied and accessible test of golf. With two tee boxes per hole and a natural, wooded setting, it challenges players to balance precision and strategy across firm greens and well-defined fairways.

Course Overview

Sandpoint Elks Golf Course offers an accessible golfing experience set against the rugged natural beauty of northern Idaho. This 9-hole layout, located at 30196 ID-200 in Ponderay, provides a straightforward yet engaging challenge for golfers with a variety of skill levels. The course is public and walking-friendly, featuring two sets of tees that allow a distinct playing experience on the front and back nine. The tree-lined fairways and well-placed bunkers keep players attentive to shot placement, while the greens demand thoughtful approach shots—especially given their firm, fast conditions where precision is rewarded.

Players will appreciate the varied terrain, which includes gentle elevation changes and strategically positioned water hazards that come into play on several holes. Sandpoint Elks does not rely on extravagant length but rather presents a test through its tight fairways and tricky green complexes. Out-of-bounds lines flank the course on some holes, making controlled ball flight essential for higher-handicap players to navigate successfully.

The overall atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming, supported by helpful staff and solid course maintenance that continues to improve season after season. Although it lacks a driving range, Sandpoint Elks compensates with a well-maintained practice putting green and a modest clubhouse offering food and beverages praised for quality and flavor by visitors. The clubhouse serves as a comfortable gathering spot after a round and enhances the experience with a friendly local vibe.

Those planning a visit should come prepared for walking on uneven turf and bring shoes with solid traction due to the natural Idaho terrain. Early morning tee times offer calm winds and ideal playing conditions, while mid-summer afternoons require attention to possible gusts that can influence ball trajectory.

For golfers seeking a casual yet considered round with a focus on shot-making, Sandpoint Elks Golf Course delivers an inviting mix of challenge and charm. It holds particular appeal for locals and travelers looking for a straightforward layout where measured play and course management are key.

WOW! The food was fantastic! My wife had the turkey pesto cabatta sandwich.... Yum! I had the chicken fried steak burger.. Sounds a bit odd, but it was great! Oh and the homemade real onion rings! Were excellent. We are out of state golfers just passing through, usually have good history and local golf courses with food... Yep the Elks food was great!

A decent little course. Reasonably priced if you're walking. But it's a little ridiculous that the cart fee on eighteen holes costs the same as the entire round ($37). Definitely not worth almost $80. Not particularly challenging, but fun enough. Staff were friendly. I don't think I'll return, but I don't regret going.

I will say I have played this course at least once a week for the past 5 weeks. It is in really good condition. The staff is great. The greens are a bit challenging as you have to land short of the flag and run to the flag going long, or flying at the flag is not a great option here, even with spin. For a 9 hole course it is set up nicely with 2 different tee boxes for the front and back, so it presents different challenges. There are some holes that are very tight where out of bounds is concerned especially if you slice or hook depending on if you are a righty or lefty. The cost even walking is a little steep for what the course is, & it is why I am giving it a 4 instead of a 5.

Do not bother playing here. Truly. The grounds are in such poor condition that it felt like we were on a 4x4 adventure over the course of 9 holes. Our tee time was supposed to be 7 am. At 7:15 we had to hunt someone down to get us checked in. The man checking us in then proceeded to tell us a litany of stupid jokes. There is also no driving range. Go up to Mirror Lake golf course instead. It is a well maintained and beautiful course with excellent customer service!

The course was in fantastic shape, even playing in the rain. I'll be back next year
