City Park Nine Golf Course

Fort Collins, Colorado, USANorthern Colorado

City Park Nine Golf Course in Fort Collins offers a concise 9-hole municipal layout ideal for casual players and beginners. Its parkland design with narrow fairways and bunker-guarded greens challenges precision within an accessible and relaxed urban setting.

Course Overview

City Park Nine Golf Course offers a compact yet engaging 9-hole layout located in Fort Collins, Colorado, delivering an accessible golf experience aimed primarily at beginners and casual players seeking a quick round. As a municipal course open to the public, it provides a practical setting for those looking to sharpen their skills without the pressure of a sprawling championship course. The parkland-style course weaves through mature trees and flat terrain, creating a setting that is straightforward but demands some course management due to its narrow fairways.

The overall environment feels comfortably informal, suited to players of all ages and abilities. Though modest in length, with tighter landing areas and greens guarded by bunkers, the course encourages precise shotmaking rather than sheer driving distance. Its central location within the city offers convenience for locals and visitors alike, though players should prepare for variable course conditions that reflect municipal maintenance schedules.

Amenities include a clubhouse with rental equipment and a small practice area. However, the driving range consists of mats rather than natural turf, which may affect practice quality. The course layout runs close to city roads, requiring awareness of boundary hazards and adding an urban edge to your round. Safety considerations are important, as player traffic and tee shot direction call for vigilance around certain holes and practice zones.

Walking is both practical and recommended at City Park Nine, as its compact footprint and relatively flat terrain make foot travel comfortable and efficient, though appropriate footwear is advised given occasional uneven surfaces.

While the customer service has received mixed reviews, many find the course a convenient option for casual play or beginners looking to break into the game. Rates are competitive compared with other municipal courses, though advancing golfers may find limited challenge due to the course’s length and straightforward routing. In sum, City Park Nine Golf Course serves as a practical, no-frills venue where the focus remains on fundamentals, accessibility, and a laid-back atmosphere amid the urban landscape of Fort Collins.

Course Highlights

The course features a parkland style layout with mature trees framing narrow fairways and greens protected by strategically placed bunkers. This is the second time we’ve had a negative interaction with one of the workers. This time a maintenance worker was driving up with zero regard for us on the tee box and chirped at us talking about how we shouldn’t be playing from those tees. No worker acts like they want you golfing there. Back to back 0/10 experiences

Pretty expensive for course quality. Twilight rates went from $19 dollars for rounds starting 2 hours before sunset to $25-28 this past year. Dynamic pricing ensures that you will be paying full price ($28) for any tee time when it is not raining, or 40 minutes before sunset. They've essentially removed twilight rates, and there is no transparency when it comes to pricing decisions. Many of the older men working are rude, dismissive of concerns, and seem to encourage hitting at other groups of players who are playing slowly. 2 of the driver holes are located next to major roadways, with insufficient fencing, resulting in misses that will fly into traffic. I have seen multiple instances of players getting struck by tee shots from adjacent holes, one of which was really bad and ended up with a concussion. I'd recommend keeping your head on a swivel any time you're on the chipping practice area, driving range, hole 4 and especially hole 8. The putting area near the first tee box can also be exciting as you listen to tee shots bounce off the trees around you. Driving range is mats only and the condition of the mats tends to be horrendous. Layers of mud have somehow gotten between the tops of the mats and the bottom, and is never cleaned out. So if you find a decent quality mat and are lucky enough to find a tee height that works for you then you're still hitting off an uneven surface that will spray mud or leave green plastic residue on your clubs. I often wonder where the exorbitant green fees go towards. I hear the city tends to use money generated from the course to go towards other programs. It's incredible to me how courses like Mountain Vista are able to keep fees low with amazing course quality, whereas the municipal course with the city's support is left to have patchy greens and minimal if not downright dangerous practice facilities. Its like they can't even afford sand for the bunkers or to level the greens after aeration. On the plus side the location is convenient, and not everyone that works there is miserable, just most of the old guys that work there for basically free rounds. It just really feels like they've learned to charge people through the nose for a course that has a lot of misgivings. Seriously check out other courses for a safer and more enjoyable experience. It's a relatively tight and technical course with all the trees, and maybe someday they'll actually reinvest the money they're charging into keeping it in good shape, and safe for players.

We played here recently and had a blast. It's a pretty basic course but it was well maintained and the clubhouse was easy to rent from.

Nice little course just up the road. It’s by a very old cemetery.

Would never recommend coming here. We booked a tee time and asked to rent an additional golf cart, which we were fully prepared to pay for. Staff refused, claiming they had a limited number of carts, yet there was a full line of unused carts clearly visible. We even offered to pay for 2 golfers even though they wouldn’t be playing. No flexibility, no real explanation, and no attempt to help. The experience was very frustrating and honestly felt dismissive. Poor customer service all around. Do not recommend.
