Course Overview

Located in Firestone, Colorado, Saddleback Golf Course offers an engaging 18-hole layout that blends natural prairie terrain with thoughtful course design to challenge and entertain golfers of varying skill levels. The course is public and welcomes both locals and visitors eager to experience its carefully maintained fairways and fast greens. The layout balances approachable holes for high handicappers with several that demand precision and course management from more experienced players. Well-groomed bunkers punctuate fairways and protect greens, requiring thoughtful club selection and approach shots. The greens themselves are known for true breaks, especially later in the day once morning moisture dissipates. Shifting winds often add an unpredictable element, testing golfers’ ability to adapt.

The course’s maintenance is consistently high, with tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers kept in excellent condition. During certain times of the year, native prairie areas along the perimeter are managed through controlled burns to preserve the natural ecosystem, an aspect that quietly underscores the club’s attention to sustainable landscape stewardship. Although the course is designed to be walkable, large undulations and some elevation changes suggest sturdy footwear and moderate physical readiness for walkers.

Adding to the experience, Saddleback’s welcoming staff extend attentive service from the moment players arrive, providing helpful insights about course conditions and local weather patterns. Beer stations positioned around the course offer convenient refreshment points, though players are advised to bring their own drinks on busier days to maintain pace.

Yesterday, My boss and I were looking for a place to play golf before our course opens in late April, so we decide to drive down from Laramie for the day. We paid $67 a piece to play which seemed to be on par with some other course in the same general vicinity. If I would have booked a little bit earlier, the price would have been reduced a little bit but that falls on me and me alone. We had the first tee time out and we're going to try and get there early to warm up a little bit. We walked in the clubhouse at about 7:15 and the clubhouse wasn't staffed by the pro shop staff yet. Some of the management staff checked in with us and offered us coffee as we were waiting and wondered if if need anything else in particular. Without checking us in, another staff member printed us out a receipt for two small buckets of range balls. Once we got to the range, another staff member grabbed our two buckets for us so we could go warm up. When were sufficiently warmed up, we checked in, grabbed our cart and headed to the first tee. The starter rolled up about 20 minutes before we went off and we had a good chat with him about the course and golf in general. All in all, the customer service we received, before we even played, was top notch. Far better than even my local course. We felt like the staff at Saddleback really care about the customer and your experience there. We played 18 and overall the course was in great shape. Early in the morning, the greens were not terribly receptive but they did roll and break true. As the day progressed and the weather got better, the course definitely started to play much better. The tee boxes, fairways, greens and bunkers were all very well maintained. We noticed the burned native areas around the course and actually saw them in the process of doing some more areas along the perimeter of the course. Even with the little bit of smoke, it didn't detract from the enjoyment we had. We will definitely be back. We didn't play great because it's the early season for us, but we would really like to come back when we are playing better and to see the course in pristine condition. It's a fun but challenging layout that is very fair for golfers of all abilities. From the maintenance guys to the pro shop staff, thanks a bunch for a great time. We will definitely will be driving down from Laramie again soon.

Beautiful course and a great location. The course is fun and has its difficulties to make it challenging. They have beer stops, but no one working them, and there is no cart girl, really makes you want to take your own drinks next time, even though you aren't supposed to. The bartender was not very pleasant either. She just needs a little better customer service skills, but knowing she is the only one serving drinks, so she could have been overwhelmed. All in all, the course was well kept, and the greens were fast, but the pace of play was SLOW. Most were nice about it, but we did wait at every hole starting at 3. Pricey for the amount of time it takes to play.

I wish these guys would get their crap figured out. No beverage cart service, instead they place someone in an inconvenient spot to buy beer if/when you go by them. Tips, no tipping, and tips allowed again. Food has gone down hill along with their customer service or lack there of. Free driving range now a vending machine. Oh, but you do get a VERY small bucket of balls included with your golf now.

Played 18 last week after joining a threesome i did not know. we had a great time and are now playing with each other every other week at Saddleback. I find the course competitive and FUN! It is a BEAUTIFUL well kept course and only problem i see with the greens is golfers not fixing their "ball marks" I guess i could go to a $40 18 hole course but that's what you will get. Thanks Saddleback...KEEP IT UP!

I live near this course and play it quite often in the evenings. The workers are great. However, the fact that it cost over $100 for 18 and there is no Marshall. Don’t come here unless you want to play a twilight tee time past 6pm. Otherwise you will be waiting all day long to hit your ball. There is also no bev cart other than stationary.
