Course Overview

Allen's Golf Course offers an intimate yet rewarding golf experience in Redding, California. This nine-hole public course stretches modestly across a landscape shaped by residential neighborhoods and sun-drenched terrain, providing players a quiet retreat where the game unfolds without distraction. The layout emphasizes precision over power, with narrower fairways flanked by mature trees and a small creek threading through the back nine, subtly influencing shot selection and course strategy. Its par-33 setup lends itself to thoughtful iron play while still allowing room for well-placed drives, accommodating golfers who enjoy a challenge that rewards accuracy.

The course's fairways reflect the warmth of the region, with sections of dry grass that speak to the area's summer climate, contributing to slower green speeds that encourage patience on approach shots and putting. While not expansive, the environment has a reflective quality, inviting players to focus on their swings amidst the gentle rustle of trees and quiet neighborhood life. It is approachable for a broad range of skill levels—from beginners seeking a friendly introduction to golf to more experienced players looking to refine their short game under the subtle pressure of tight lies and well-guarded greens.

Allen’s Golf Course operates with a welcoming spirit, supported by a professional and attentive staff dedicated to maintaining the course's neat, straightforward character. Walking is encouraged here, and the compact course layout makes it accessible for players on foot, though comfortable shoes are recommended due to varied terrain and occasional dry patches.

Guests will appreciate the simplicity of amenities paired with the course’s unpretentious charm, mediating between casual rounds and focused practice sessions. It is a place where the rhythm of the game is not rushed, allowing golfers to step away from the bustle and find a measured pace that both challenges and refreshes.

In a quiet pocket of Redding, where neighborhoods sprawl with quiet resignation and backyards press gently against the edge of the course, there lies Allen’s Golf. It is small. It is modest. And in its stillness, it reminds us of the fleeting nature of all things. The course is not grand, but it endures. Nine holes, drawn with a kind of hesitant affection across sun-worn land. The fairways, uneven and dry in places, seem to sag under the weight of summers long past. And yet, people come. Not in crowds, but in slow-moving pairs, or alone, pushing their carts as if following a thread they cannot name. Here, the game is stripped to its essentials—motion, silence, struggle, and release. The ball arcs through air that remembers everything and forgets nothing. Trees sway gently, indifferent witnesses to each swing and misstep. The earth does not care if you birdie the dog leg fifth hole or shank it OB. And in that, there is peace. Allen’s exists not in spite of the neighborhood, but within it. Children ride past on bicycles. Porch lights flicker on at dusk. And still, the course remains—not eternal, but persistent. A temporary stage where we enact small dramas, knowing they will vanish like footprints in dry grass. To walk these nine holes is to be reminded, softly and without cruelty, that nothing lasts. Not the game, not the course, not the body that swings the club. And yet we play—not to win, but to mark the time gently, with intention. For over a half of a century, in this quiet corner of Shasta County, surrounded by the ordinary, Allen’s Golf Course has not offered escape, but reflection. In its brief pause, we are reminded that even our smallest rituals are worth the breath they take, and that to play is, in its own way, to say I. Was. Here. Five stars (for simplicity and stillness in the face of suburban chaos)

Allen's is a great golf course to get out and have some fun. Nice layout with trees and creek through the place. Fairways are narrow and greens on slow side. Its more an iron course but can drive a few holes depending on your yardage. Think it's a par 33. Anyways great place for some golf.
