Coyote Creek Golf Club

Morgan Hill, California, USANorthern California

Coyote Creek Golf Club in Morgan Hill features two distinct 18-hole courses blending open, rolling terrain with strategic design. From the firm, wind-affected greens of the Valley Course to the graceful, tree-lined fairways of the Nicklaus-designed Tournament Course, both layouts offer rewarding play for golfers seeking challenge and variety.

Course Overview

Coyote Creek Golf Club, located in Morgan Hill, California, offers two distinct 18-hole courses, each providing a unique challenge set against a backdrop of open skies and rolling terrain. The Valley Course, with its broad fairways and strategic bunkering, requires precision and thoughtful course management. Its firm, fast greens challenge approach shots and putts alike, especially when afternoon winds pick up, adding an unpredictable element to the play. This layout rewards accuracy off the tee and sharp short game skills, making it an engaging test for golfers of varying abilities.

Just a short distance away, the Tournament Course reflects Jack Nicklaus’s design principles with visually appealing features and thoughtful contours. The fairways are framed by stands of trees and well-placed bunkers, emphasizing strategic placement over pure distance. The greens here hold shots well and offer subtle breaks that invite careful reading. This course balances challenge with accessibility, inviting players to explore risk-reward scenarios while enjoying a course that fits naturally into the California landscape.

Both courses are maintained to a high standard, with lush fairways, consistent turf conditions, and bunkers that frame key shot zones effectively. The absence of significant elevation allows for a smooth walking experience, although the length of the courses demands good stamina and proper footwear for those opting to traverse on foot. The practice facility at Coyote Creek complements the on-course experience, featuring a putting green where players can fine-tune their touch and accuracy before heading out.

Beyond the fairways, the clubhouse provides a relaxed atmosphere with attentive staff supporting events and daily play. Whether enjoying a post-round meal in the bar area or receiving helpful advice from the pro shop, visitors will find the service welcoming and professional.

Ideal for intermediate to low handicap players seeking a course that tests shot-making without overwhelming complexity, Coyote Creek’s dual layouts offer variety and day-long enjoyment. Wind conditions, especially on the Valley Course, can test tempo and club selection, so planning tee times earlier in the day might enhance the experience. Overall, Coyote Creek Golf Club balances scenic Californian settings with thoughtfully crafted golf to satisfy those seeking serious play in a friendly environment.

Course Highlights

Coyote Creek Golf Club offers two well-maintained 18-hole courses featuring a blend of open fairways and strategic bunkers. The Valley Course tests players with firm, undulating greens and wind that can greatly affect scoring late in the day. The Tournament Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, provides a more tree-lined, traditional layout emphasizing shot placement and green-side control. Both courses benefit from excellent conditioning and a friendly, professional staff.

Both the valley and tournament courses are designed by Jack Nicholas, played at the Valley Course, I would say it's a fine course, as there's not much design on the set-up of the courses, except Hole 7 needs to fly the ball across the pond, the rest are plain and simple. Maybe this is the way it was designed to be.

Great course!! Trees and bunkers throughout every hole which made ball placement critical. Front 9 had about 6mph winds and slowed down on the back nine. Pace of plan on Thursday Feb 20, was a bit slow (~30min) but was manageable. Staff were super-friendly overall good value. A great walking course, but it is long. I definitely recommend.

Really enjoyed this track. You will need a good driver on several Valley course holes. Good opportunities to score. Very open fairways, little to no elevation. Greens, fairways, and bunkers were in good shape. Nice practice facility with practice putting green. We were there Memorial Day but pace of play was still very good. Friendly pro shop that's well stocked. To go bar/grille was a bit slow so plan on a 15-20 minute wait for food.

Played this golf course a few days ago (and few times in last 12 months). It is a good course with good view. However I found one policy not comfortable. We had 3 players this time (usually we have 4) and paid for the cart. The staff required one of us to be in the same cart with another player unless we paid extra $20 for the cart. It is hard to imagine to ride with a total stranger, ie: who is going to drive, is he/she a good driver, smoking or bad habit, or will he/she get mad if not playing well and drive recklessly. We had never experienced this in other courses before,

Played both the Valley and the Tournament courses this past weekend in an event. Both courses were in great shape, the greens were pretty quick, though the Valley Course greens are hard as rocks, and don't receive shots well. This makes the Valley very difficult, as the green complexes are very undulated. I played both of my rounds in the morning so wind wasn't a big issue until we were finishing. I have played the Valley in an afternoon practice round and the wind is a huge factor. Big gusts. The Tournament course is a wonderful Jack Nicklaus design, and like many Nicklaus courses, if you play a cut you will enjoy how it fits the eye. The green complexes on the Tournament course are awesome, the greens held and the layout is really good. A lot of character for being in such an open area. Top notch golf facility. Food and beverage staff were really cool as well in the bar area and halfway house. The shop staff was good too, bought some gear :). 4.5 / 5.0

We held a golf tournament to raise funds for our school and parish yesterday and it was a lot of fun. The staff was flexible and made the process smooth. Upon arrival, the team had everything ready to go and we could focus on our tasks. Kayla was a gem. Thanks CCGC!
