Course Overview

Located in the heart of Grass Valley, California, Nevada County Country Club offers a distinctive golfing experience with its intimate 9-hole layout. Founded decades ago, this course embraces a classic parkland style defined by well-kept fairways, modest elevations, and mature trees lining each hole. The steady presence of foothills in the distance and the temperate mountain air create a refreshing setting that invites relaxed concentration and casual camaraderie.

Although shorter than regulation 18-hole courses, Nevada County Country Club challenges players through thoughtfully placed bunkers and subtly contoured greens. Each hole demands attention to shot placement rather than brute distance, making it a course well suited for golfers of all skill levels seeking both enjoyment and testing moments. The course’s approachable design rewards strategic thinking while remaining friendly for walkers—an option encouraged given the compact layout and gentle terrain.

The clubhouse, a charming Victorian structure harking back to the late 1800s, anchors the property with historical character and offers a welcoming social hub. Adjacent outdoor seating overlooks portions of the course, providing a relaxed vantage point for players and spectators. While food service is limited to snacks and a full bar, the atmosphere supports a strong community vibe supported by active weekly men’s and ladies’ club events alongside monthly tournaments.

Visitors will appreciate the well-maintained greens and fairways that reflect dedicated groundskeeping efforts, preserving both playability and aesthetic appeal. Light course traffic and a friendly staff contribute to an enjoyable round without the pressure of crowded tees or pace-of-play issues.

Before planning a visit, golfers should consider checking the schedule to avoid tournament days when the course may be reserved for members. Walking is straightforward and comfortable, but players are advised to wear supportive footwear suited to grass and gentle slopes. Nevada County Country Club provides an inviting, approachable setting ideal for locals and visitors seeking a modest yet refined mountain foothill golf experience.

We’ve been playing golf here as members for almost 25 years. Great course, great people and fun events (weekly Ladies Club & Men’s Club as well as monthly tournaments). One of the oldest courses in Northern California, this course is a hidden gem with a Victorian clubhouse right out of the late 1800’s.

Great course, friendly staff, very lenient and not over packed with players. Played there twice now and had a lot of fun. It's a 9 hole course, very easy to walk if you don't want a cart. The course seems relatively maintained too.

Nice 9 hole Par 4 course. Affordable, local, good people, well-maintained. Open to the public most of the time. Call in advance to avoid tournaments and other members-only events.

I’m a member of Nevada County Country Club! I love our little Club. The course is shorter than most other courses but can be quite a challenge which makes it a lot of fun to play. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere and very family and community oriented.
