Forest Highlands Golf Club

Flagstaff, Arizona, USANorthern Arizona

Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Arizona presents an 18-hole championship experience set within cool ponderosa pines and rugged mountain scenery. This private course rewards precision and thoughtful strategy amid carefully maintained fairways and greens.

Course Overview

Located in the cool pines of Flagstaff, Arizona, Forest Highlands Golf Club offers a distinguished 18-hole championship layout that challenges players while embracing the natural beauty of the surrounding forested mountains. This private course is carved through dense stands of ponderosa pines and features elevations that demand thoughtful club selection and precise shot-making. The layout unfolds across uneven terrain, presenting a parkland style framed by Colorado Plateau vistas and whispering winds that test a player’s rhythm and patience.

Forest Highlands balances strategic design with excellent playability for golfers with a range of abilities. Fairways are often generous, allowing for a confident tee shot, yet well-positioned bunkers and undulating greens introduce subtle but meaningful risk-reward decisions. The course’s conditioning is routinely praised, with greens that roll true and fairways that maintain a pristine surface, particularly during the summer months when Flagstaff’s cooler climate brings welcomed relief from desert heat.

The 14th hole stands out with its inviting pond bordered by a charming covered bridge, offering a unique visual anchor and a memorable mid-round challenge. Mature trees frame many of the holes, and glimpses of the San Francisco Peaks to the west punctuate play with breathtaking scenery. Every shot feels connected to the landscape’s quiet grandeur, inviting players to focus on precision and strategy rather than brute power.

Forest Highlands caters primarily to members, with a strong emphasis on community and tradition. The clubhouse facilities provide a refined atmosphere, including well-appointed dining and event spaces, enriching the overall experience beyond the course itself. Walking the course is encouraged, and players should be prepared for moderate elevation changes and a natural forest floor underfoot.

For those planning a visit, early summer through fall offers the most stable conditions, with crisp air enhancing focus and stamina on the course. Golfers will find Forest Highlands Golf Club a harmonious blend of challenge, natural beauty, and quiet sophistication, making it a prized destination in northern Arizona’s golfing landscape.

As a destination MC, I've seen many venues and worked with a variety of staff, and can say that the wedding/event team at Forest Highlands is among the best! During our preparations for our clients' wedding, we were in constant communication, and made the necessary adjustments that fit our clients' desired event. Due to our consistent communication, we already had a positive rapport, and it carried into the event days. During the events, the team (led by Karen and Tanner) was professional, accommodating, and had a team-oriented approach! As an event professional, it's always great to meet fellow like-minded event professionals that always keep the clients/event success as the ultimate goal!

When it come to wedding venues, not every country club is created equally. But Forest Highlands is at the top of my list of awesome places to photograph weddings! It has two clubhouse reception locations, each with their own vibe. And Forest Highlands has three wedding ceremony locations. The 14th hole is situated next to a small pond with a really cool covered bridge photo location, while the other locations feature mountain views. The venue is also nestled in among pine trees. You get forest vibes as well. So many cool spots for couples photos. Add in great catering and expert day of coordinating and it's pretty much perfect!

We attended a wedding reception recently and the entire staff was so nice and accommodating. The dinner was delicious and the bar offered several drink choices. I would highly recommend this venue!

I was blocked in by three men who harassed and intimidated me like I was armed and dangerous because I accidentally turned in here. Barricaded me In with three trucks. They accused me of sneaking in when it was clear that I was desperately trying to find a way out as soon as I turned in and realized it was the wrong turn. the intimidation continued after I told them that I was camping nearby and simply trying to get to my spot. They took photos of my license plate. Im five feet tall, Latin in a Honda with a Pomeranian.

Forest Highlands Canyon golf course is amazing. It is very difficult but fair if you make good shots. It has come out of the winter well. Only winter damage is in the rough areas. Greens are in superb shape.
