Newbury, Massachusetts, USANortheastern Massachusetts

Ould Newbury Golf Club offers a scenic 9-hole public course set beside salt marshes in Newbury, MA. Featuring elevated tees and challenging greens, this course provides an engaging yet accessible round complemented by a relaxed clubhouse atmosphere.

Course Overview

Ould Newbury Golf Club presents a compelling 9-hole challenge set within the coastal landscape of Newbury, Massachusetts. This public course invites golfers of varying abilities to engage with a design that balances enjoyable play with thoughtful difficulty. Each hole earns its character through gently elevated tees and greens, which require precision and strategic shot-making. The course’s proximity to the salt marshes offers a dynamic setting where winds subtly influence trajectory, rewarding players who adapt their game to the environment.

The fairways run smooth and true, with well-maintained grass that encourages clean contact and consistent rolls. Elevated greens add an extra layer of challenge, demanding carefully judged approaches that must often account for subtle breaks and firm surfaces. Golfers can expect a layout that tests accuracy without overwhelming novices, making it approachable for those new to the sport while still offering nuances appreciated by more experienced players.

Beyond play, Ould Newbury’s clubhouse reflects a welcoming atmosphere with a restaurant that complements the game. The dining area features a deck overlooking the 9th green, where patrons can enjoy casual fare including burgers, subs, and refreshing cocktails. This combination of course and clubhouse fosters a complete golf experience—one that suits a leisurely round followed by social relaxation.

Signage on the course is straightforward, though a few fairways require attentiveness due to blind shots, suggesting players keep course maps or GPS handy during initial rounds. Walkers will find well-kept paths and terrain that invites exploration without excessive exertion, though insect repellent is advisable given the marshy surroundings.

Ould Newbury Golf Club offers both scenic views and a moderate test of golf in a format that fits nicely into a half-day’s outing. Had me at hello. When driving diwn old rt1ski you would expect to find a few things...... Well kept ✔ Kinda friendly sure 1/2 ✔. This was me first day here and boy did they get me good. Presentation is fine, club also. As for forthright, not so much. Good business and good 9 holes are not always equal.

Scenic and challenging 9-hole course. Due to its proximity near a marsh, can get a bit buggy. Friendly staff, easy to find, charming club house.

Great day at Ould Newbury! Greens and fairways in great shape. Suggestion to help those new to the course would be to have more signage to the next hole. Plus a marker on the few fairways that are blind shots. Example: 2nd hole we were actually aiming for the wrong green. When we came around to the green we were mistakenly driving to, the group on 2 did the same thing. We had lunch on the deck; burgers, subs, salad and cocktails...all good! *View of the 9th green from the deck. "Watch out for errant balls."
