Slammer & Squire Golf Course

St. Augustine, Florida, USANortheast Florida

Slammer & Squire in St. Augustine, FL, offers a balanced 18-hole layout combining parkland and coastal elements. Known for its fairways, inviting greens, and a pace of play that suits all skill levels, it provides an enjoyable and accessible golfing experience near Florida’s historical landmarks.

Course Overview

Located in the heart of historic St. Augustine, Florida, Slammer & Squire Golf Course offers a distinctive 18-hole layout where the game’s tradition meets approachable playability. This semi-private venue blends a parkland style with subtle coastal influences, weaving fairways through gently rolling terrain that captures the warm Florida breeze. While the course stands as a modern counterpart to the famed World Golf Hall of Fame Museum just beyond its borders, its design focuses on providing a fair but engaging test for all skill levels.

From the first tee, the course introduces rolling fairways framed by mature trees and well-positioned bunkers that demand thoughtful shot placement. The greens run at a steady pace, favoring players who balance patience with precision. Several holes feature water hazards that come into play strategically but invite discretion rather than deep risk-taking, making Slammer & Squire approachable for weekend players and challenging enough to hold the interest of low handicappers.

Course conditions have seen a range of reviews, with consistent praise directed toward the fairway maintenance and overall layout. Players often note the course’s courteous marshals and the steady pace of play, usually completing rounds within four hours. The absence of cart GPS systems shifts greater emphasis onto course knowledge and mental mapping, adding a subtle layer of engagement for those who enjoy marshaling their strategy independently.

Amenities include a well-equipped practice range with carts delivering clubs directly to the warm-up area, and a clubhouse where golfers can relax post-round. Walkers are welcome, though the Florida climate recommends light, breathable attire and reliable footwear to manage both sun and occasional rain.

Slammer & Squire integrates Florida’s natural setting without overwhelming with excessive hazards, creating an inviting environment that encourages skill development. Whether visiting during cooler months or alongside the cultural richness of nearby St. Augustine, golfers can expect an accessible experience with enough nuance to reward thoughtful play and steady improvement.

Course Highlights

The course benefits from its proximity to the World Golf Hall of Fame, offering rich golfing history in its surroundings. Water hazards are strategically placed to influence shot decisions without imposing undue punishment. The course’s fairways are consistently well-maintained, and the absence of cart GPS means players engage directly with course navigation. Several holes feature inviting but challenging green complexes framed by bunkers, rewarding accuracy and thoughtful approach shots.

Played here on 6/21. Came in from out of town and was tentative after some negative reviews. The course was in great shape, but the greens were a little fuzzy for my taste. A welcome greeting and a ride to the range where my clubs awaited. Marshall came around often with cold water and pace of play was fine at 4 hours. I would come back next time I was in town.

Could be in better shape, although I hear they have had a lot of rain and cold weather to go with it (it’s not like Florida does not get a lot of rain in the summer). Shame the World Golf Hall of Fame is defunct and must have an impact on attendance of the golf courses. The guy in the pro shop had about as much personality as a brown paper bag. Overall : not worth the money.

Pretty mid. Disappointing. While playing this course one word repeatedly came to mind. Unremarkable. It’s not BAD, but for $175 in February it’s a rip off. This is a $75 course tops. I guess cause they throw in a couple bottles of water and loan you a bath towel it’s “premium” Bathrooms are dirty. No GPS in the cart. For the most part the staff was nice. Whatever, I’m on vacation. I won’t be back. (I didn’t see any snakes or gators.) I recommend Cypress Knoll.

This an awesome golf course. First time I have played it and it didn’t disappoint. Fairways are in great shape and very playable. The greens putted very true. They did apologize for a couple of them not being completely grown in yet, however I didn’t feel as if that was necessary . Great experience, also my wife got to come along and we had a blast. Thank you for the great golf course.

Course has gone downhill. Was excited for my daughter to play here but did not live up to my previous visits. Greens were in horrible shape.
