Course Overview
Bear Creek Golf Course in Winthrop, Washington, offers a compact yet engaging 9-hole layout that invites golfers to experience a fresh challenge on each round. Its clever use of two distinct tee boxes per hole creates effective variations, allowing players to stretch out distances and adjust angles to build the illusion of two separate circuits. This clever design keeps the game lively, especially for those who return for a second go in a single visit.
Set against the backdrop of the rugged Cascade foothills, the course weaves through open meadows and lightly wooded areas, where the air carries the scent of pine and crisp mountain air. The fairways present a balanced test, with well-maintained turf and greens that reward precision. While the putting surfaces currently run a bit slower than typical championship speeds, their smoothness offers an inviting platform for thoughtful stroke play.
Bear Creek’s approachable yardage and thoughtful tee placements make it an excellent choice for golfers of all skill levels, from beginners looking to build confidence to seasoned players seeking a fun, low-pressure environment. Walkers will find footing steady across the terrain, though sturdy shoes are recommended given occasional variations in elevation and soft spots near the creek crossings.
The clubhouse facilities provide a welcoming spot to relax with food and drinks, enhancing the community atmosphere fostered by the friendly staff and owners. Their dedication to guest experience is evident, especially in moments like accommodating disc golf groups with care and enthusiasm.
While wayfinding signage between the dual-tee setup can be improved to ease course navigation, this aspect feels minor in relation to the overall charm and playability. Bear Creek Golf Course is a local gem where thoughtful design and natural surroundings come together to create enjoyable rounds that encourage repeated visits. For those traveling through Winthrop, it offers a practical, scenic stop to sharpen skills without the pressure of a sprawling championship layout.
Course Highlights

Fun little 9 hole course! Playing it through 2x from their different tee boxes definitely makes it feel like you're not playing the same course twice. Fair prices as well which is always nice! In great shape right now. Greens were running smooth, maybe a tad slow. I'd return, and in fact will return for another go tomorrow

They set up the disc golf baskets for a group of us after having taken them down for the season literally the day before. Amazing, friendly owners here.

Nice little course. 9 holes but you can make it 10 by playing different tee boxes they has set up and it can change some of the yardage and angles by 50+ yards. Greens were in good shape for the price of the course. Club house was nice with food and drinks. The people working (owning) were awesome too. I’ll play again when I’m back in the area.

Pros: Fairways and greens are pretty good for a small local course. Cons: Each hole has 2 tee boxes. One is for playing the "front" 9 and the other for the "back" 9. There are no signs directing you to the next tee. REALLY? The scorecard map didn't help must. Come on. Direction signs aren't that expensive! Plus, you have to merge with the groups playing the back. All very confusing! Best for locals.
