Wachesaw East Golf Club

Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, USAMyrtle Beach

Wachesaw East Golf Club delivers a strategic 18-hole golfing experience in Murrells Inlet, blending natural undulations with tight fairways and sandy greens. Ideal for players who appreciate thoughtful shot-making in a well-kept, semi-private setting near Myrtle Beach.

Course Overview

Situated just off Route 17 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Wachesaw East Golf Club is an 18-hole, semi-private course that offers a compelling mix of challenge and charm within a residential setting. The course winds through a community of well-maintained homes without ever feeling crowded by them, preserving a sense of focused golf amid subtle daily life. Wachesaw East presents a layout that demands precision more than power, with many holes featuring tight fairways guarded by natural hazards and strategically placed bunkers that can quickly penalize wayward shots.

The terrain is marked by gentle undulations across fairways and greens, creating a dynamic playing surface that tests short game skills and approach accuracy. The greens themselves are sandy with noticeable breaks, revealing the course’s characteristic style—an attribute that invites players to assess the ground game thoughtfully. While recent aeration initially impacts putting performance, overall green conditions remain firm and receptive, holding approach shots with grace.

Wachesaw East suits a broad range of golfers, offering enough variety to keep low handicappers engaged while remaining approachable for mid to high handicaps. The layout’s blend of tight holes and open approaches encourages smart course management and strategic shot selection.

The practice facilities add another layer to the experience, with a well-maintained driving range and a dedicated short game area that allows players to fine-tune their game before or after rounds. Staff members often receive praise for their helpfulness and local insight, enhancing the welcome felt by visitors. The course requires golf carts for play due to the length and design, and while carts do not feature GPS technology, their newer electric models provide a smooth ride.

Navigating the course during wetter months may present cart path-only restrictions, but the pace of play typically remains steady, allowing for an enjoyable four-hour round. Wachesaw East stands as a competitive value in the Myrtle Beach area, balancing reasonable green fees with quality maintenance and a thoughtful layout. Its combination of natural beauty and strategic design invite players to engage fully with the landscape and the game.

Course Highlights

Known for its sandy, undulating greens and challenging fairways framed by natural wetlands, Wachesaw East requires precision from tee to green. The course balances challenging tight drives with open second shots, leveraging native vegetation and water hazards to shape strategy throughout the round. Its practice facilities include a full driving range and a dedicated short game area, supporting golfers of every level in refining their skills.

Overall: A pleasant course to play. Would be mostly all “5s” except for the poor condition of the bunkers throughout the course. Wachesaw Plantation East is conveniently located just off Route 17 in Murrell’s Inlet. We played the course in early April. Although set in a residential development the homes do not intrude on the course. Helpful bag drop and starter staff and a well appointed pro shop. The cart girl came by frequently. Newer electric carts, but no GPS. Nice grass driving range and a short game area, a real plus. Good variety in holes. The fairways, tee boxes and greens were all in very good condition. The one downside, and it’s a big downside, was the condition of both the fairway and greenside bunkers. Some bunkers were washed out and there was hard-packed sand in the rest. Puzzling on a course that was otherwise well maintained. Wachesaw East is one of the many mid-priced courses ($80-$100 with cart depending on day of week and time) in the Myrtle Beach area. Overall, a good value for the money. I just hope they have addressed the bunker issue.

Visited the driving range the day before Thanksgiving and was very impressed! Roger was especially helpful and treated me like a VIP - providing my disabled father with a golf cart so he could ride with my mother over to the range to see me hit - something he was very excited to experience. Two days prior I had stopped by to assess the situation for my Dad and received exceptional service by Jim at the golf bag drop off area. He showed me where I needed to go and helped me devise a plan to help my father when I returned with him. Gorgeous and well maintained practice area. Highly recommend a visit. Plenty of parking and exceptional customer service. Can't wait to come back!

Just played here on June 6th. The course itself was in good shape and we liked it. As far as the staff goes that was a different story. Not once did anyone say hello or welcome. Bag drop guys asked our name and told us to go check-in. Went inside was asked our name again handed our ticket told we were all set. Pulled up to the started and was told he needed our ticket and that we would start on hole 10. We asked If we could go putt some and he said to keep an eye on the guys in front of us we would be following. We putted twice and was told to head to the first tee and that was it. The lady inside at the snack bar was friendly. This was our 5th and final day of golf and definitely the worst experience of the week. Will not go back.

Dad and I played here yesterday, June 24. We’ve played several courses in the Myrtle Beach area over the 8 years we’ve been down here and were surprised to realize Wachesaw East is right down the road from our condo. The course was in beautiful shape despite recent aeration of the greens. While the putting was rough, the sandy greens held approach shots nicely. Lots of undulations. The course is in a very nice community with lots of new homes and nice walking trails around the course. Some tricky holes with tight fairways off the tee and others with hazards located in front of the greens. Our starter, I believe his name was Steve, was very informative and friendy as he gave us a heads up about some of the tricky holes aforementioned. Dad and I had a good time. Despite the course being packed, the pace of play was quick as we finished our round (7am tee time) in 4 hours and 10 minutes. The only thing I wish they had was a course gps on the golf carts. But overall, we were very happy.

Nice course not the best I've played in the area but certainly not the worst I would definitely go back. Got paired with two locals Tyler and Brody very nice and respectful young men. The course was cart path only which was really hard on my dad but we made it through it and had a good time. The staff was friendly and apologized for them being cart path only nothing they could really do it was super wet
