Course Overview
Set within the sweeping mountain landscape of Davis, West Virginia, Canaan Valley Resort Golf Club offers an 18-hole challenge that blends natural beauty with a test of precision. This public resort course unfolds over rolling terrain shaped by the Appalachian ridge lines, delivering a layout that rewards thoughtful shot-making across all skill levels. Canaan Valley’s elevation changes and tree-lined fairways create dynamic sights and strategic decisions at nearly every hole, while the well-maintained greens encourage approach shots that run true.
Players will appreciate the parkland style with subtle influences from mountain golf, where the air feels crisp and carries the subtle scents of pine and fresh-cut turf. Wide fairways provide room for longer hitters, but well-positioned bunkers and natural hazards guard the scoring zones. The course’s conditioning often draws praise, especially during peak seasons when the turf quality rivals courses well beyond the region.
The setting invites a variety of golfers, from families and casual players seeking a scenic round to more competitive players looking for a moderately challenging test. Several holes offer stunning panoramas of the surrounding valleys and ridges, especially from elevated tees where glimpses of distant peaks come into focus.
At Canaan Valley Resort Golf Club, the clubhouse serves as a welcoming hub with friendly staff dedicated to accommodating walk-ins and planned tee times alike. Amenities include a well-stocked pro shop and comfortable lounge spaces, making it an ideal stop while exploring West Virginia’s golf destinations. Although equipment rentals and carts are available, the course’s walkability encourages players to experience this mountain setting on foot—bringing a more intimate connection to the land with every stroke.
Visitors should prepare for seasonal weather shifts that can influence playability and bring occasional wildlife encounters that add an unexpected element to the round. Whether seeking a memorable vacation round or a local retreat, Canaan Valley combines natural scenery and solid golf architecture to create an experience worth returning to.

This course has the potential to be a beautiful course. Played last weekend, so many grass clippings lost the balls in the middle of the fairway. For what they charged the expectation was much higher. If you want to keep a dirty course, price appropriately or don't advertise as a resort.

The Canaan Valley Golf Course is excellent. Everyone is so nice and Ms. Holly in the club house was great! She is so nice and worked to accommodate me as a walk in with no Tee time. The course is very well maintained, the views are amazing and the rest of the staff are great to work with. If you get a chance to play a round or two, keep your fingers crossed that “good golly” Ms. Holly is there to take care of you.

We had a fun day with beautiful weather at Canaan Valley Golf Course! The staff was down to earth and attentive. The park superintendent discussed the “course bear”. It was my first time seeing one in person and it was interesting to hear the history of him. The course was in pristine condition and the arts were clean and functional.

It is a conference facility. The food was predictable. It could be a little more handicap or older person friendly.
