Hermitage Golf Course

Old Hickory, Tennessee, USAMiddle Tennessee

Hermitage Golf Course pairs two distinct 18-hole layouts set among Tennessee's natural woodlands. Both tracks balance strategic design with approachable playability, presenting a scenic yet practical option close to Nashville. From tree-lined fairways to well-maintained greens, Hermitage offers a welcoming experience for golfers across skill levels.

Course Overview

Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tennessee, delivers a varied and inviting experience for players of all levels across its two 18-hole courses, Presidents Reserve and Generals Retreat. Set amid mature hardwoods and gentle rolling terrain, the layout feels rooted in the natural landscape without intrusion from nearby development, offering a sense of escape just minutes from Nashville. Both courses embrace strategic tree-lined fairways, well-placed bunkers, and water hazards that challenge shot selection and course management without overwhelming the amateur player.

The Presidents Reserve course is characterized by its thoughtful routing and subtle elevation shifts that demand precision from tee to green, rewarding accuracy over sheer power. Generals Retreat offers a slightly more forgiving layout, ideal for players seeking enjoyable pacing with equally scenic views. Grass conditions are generally maintained with care, although seasonal factors like aeration can temporarily affect surfaces. Smooth greens test putting strokes with subtle breaks, encouraging careful reading and touch.

Players will find multiple sets of tees on each course, accommodating a range of handicaps and allowing visitors to tailor the challenge to their game. Walking is welcomed where permitted, but golf carts mostly follow a path-only policy during early spring months, which can influence pace of play. Soft spikes or sturdy golf shoes are advisable when traversing the lush fairways and natural woodland areas.

Onsite amenities include a clubhouse facility offering dining and beverage options that serve as ideal places to regroup and enjoy the surroundings after a round. The pro shop and friendly staff add to the welcoming atmosphere. While the course operates as a public facility, large groups and events are regularly accommodated, making Hermitage Golf Course a dependable choice for players visiting the Nashville area.

Whether you seek a relaxed round framed by Tennessee’s verdant woodlands or a competitive test against thoughtfully crafted hazards, Hermitage stands as a solid option. Plan accordingly for seasonal conditions and tee time availability to make the most of your visit here.

Course Highlights

The two 18-hole courses offer contrasting yet complementary playing experiences, with Presidents Reserve presenting a more challenging test through rolling terrain and strategic bunkering. Generals Retreat delivers a balanced layout with generous fairways and natural water features. Both courses highlight mature hardwood surroundings and elevated greens that require precise approach shots. The absence of nearby residences maintains a peaceful, unspoiled atmosphere uncommon near an urban center.

We really enjoyed playing Hermitage! We had a large group of us for a wedding weekend and they accommodated our group well! The course is awesome, felt very natural with no homes in sight. The layout is super playable and they've got plenty sets of tees for all skill levels. The grass was still dormant when we played but the course was still in very good shape. The greens were smooth and rolled well. I would definitely recommend Hermitage when playing public golf in Nashville!

I’ve been playing here for at least 12 years and it’s gone way down hill all while getting ridiculously expensive for what it is. It’s the worst range conditions I’ve ever seen, no exaggeration. Also, I’ve left 2 range finders in the cart by accident. My fault obviously, but when I call the next day they say they “don’t have it.” I even asked about their policy with rangefinders and they play dumb. The employees are stealing the rangefinders and items left behind in carts. I can guarantee you that. I will be ending my 12+ years of giving this place my business. Play somewhere else in Nashville.

This was our second time playing at Hermitage golf course. We played the Generals Retreat this time. After playing both courses, the Presidents Reserve is a little nicer and more challenging but both are beautiful and well maintained. Tree lined fairways, well placed bunkers, lots of water, and sloping topography make for a beautiful, fun course to play. Only downside was the recently aerated greens and fairways but hopefully that will be resolved soon.

The course is great. Challenging and fun. However the management of the course is not excellent. From the moment I checked in I had problems. I booked a tee time for 2 people. My reservation from my email confirmed my tee time was at 1:30. I arrive and check in at 1:15 but my buddy was still parking. The lady at the counter says, actually your tee time is 1:20. I pull out my confirmation email and reassure her it is 1:30 and she began to be annoyed and asking why my partner hadn’t arrived yet? I again showed the 1:30 confirmation email. So my partner arrives and they RUSH us onto the course only to tee off the wait 5-9 minutes between each shot due to overbooking. They gave us a cart without telling letting us know it was path only. So we walked more than if we just had walked the course. Which we would have done had they told us. Our cart was a Marshall’s cart so we didn’t have a GPS for yardage and hole information. So I had fun golfing on a pretty course, but don’t play here unless you have 6 hours to devote to a round.

Played golf in March. It is always cart path only until mid-april, which made the round incredibly slow. The bar/grill was not clearly laid out, but the staff was friendly. Rangers didn't encourage groups to play faster. No warning from the pro shop when we booked that darkness would be a factor. For the price of the round, that was not cool.

WOW! Just had our wedding this weekend and it could not have been more perfect! Mindy and Carson are an absolute DREAM and made sure every detail of my day went perfectly!! Even just a few little issues came up and they were handled immediately. This is the most stunning venue and has so many little perks that just made my day even better not only for me but for my guests as well. Pretty much the whole place has been renovated and they did such a great job. The venue is set up perfectly for a wedding with staging rooms, beautiful garden and reception rooms, getting ready rooms, putt putt during cocktail hour, fire table outside for guests to take a dance break, the list goes on!! If you want a perfect wedding day like we had, then look no further, this is your venue!! Thank you once again Mindy, Carson, and the entire HGC crew for making our wedding day magical and absolutely epic!!

I have played a few rounds here and the course is beautiful, the unlimited range is great to warmup, food in the clubhouse is good, and I can’t say enough about the staff. Cason and Angela in particular have made my last couple trips to this course all the more fun. Thank you both for creating some awesome memories for me! Looking forward to my next trip!
