Old Fort Golf Course

Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USAMiddle Tennessee

Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is a welcoming public 18-hole parkland layout characterized by approachable play and steady improvements. Its balanced design blends gentle hills, well-placed bunkers, and true-running greens, making it suitable for golfers at multiple skill levels.

Course Overview

Set amid the rolling hills south of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Old Fort Golf Course offers a thoroughly approachable yet engaging golfing experience as a public 18-hole layout that balances natural terrain with player-friendly design. The course folds gently into its surroundings, presenting primarily parkland-style fairways lined with mature trees and occasional open stretches that invite the region’s light breeze to influence shot selection. While the topography is moderate, the course demands strategic thinking from golfers of all skill levels, with well-placed bunkers and subtle undulations that test both tee accuracy and short-game touch.

Playability remains a core strength here. The tee boxes span a variety of distances that make Old Fort accessible to beginners while still providing enough challenge for low handicaps who appreciate finding the right lines through fairway corridors and green complexes. Greens run true and hold well, rewarding careful approach shots, although they can become slick after Tennessee’s frequent showers. The course’s ongoing remodeling, slated for completion around late fall 2024, promises enhancements that will refresh some holes without compromising the course’s inviting rhythm.

Scenery draws from Tennessee’s woodlands and open fields, contributing to a calm yet vivid setting. Wildlife, including the occasional deer sighting, brings a quiet presence on quiet mornings. The clubhouse environment enhances the experience with welcoming staff, a clean and efficient pro shop, and a relaxed concession area.

Old Fort’s driving range and practice facilities are well regarded, with lessons available from knowledgeable teaching pros. Visitors are advised that walking is possible but the rolling terrain calls for sturdy shoes. Golf carts are available and recommended depending on weather and stamina. For those seeking a cost-effective outing that rewards sound, thoughtful golf, Old Fort Golf Course represents a solid choice in Middle Tennessee.

The course’s combination of scenery, renovation progress, and player-oriented layout sets it apart as a reliable public option with atmosphere and value. Whether squeezing in nine holes after work or committing to a full 18-hole round, golfers will find ample reasons to return and enjoy its steady rhythm and evolving features.

Course Highlights

Old Fort Golf Course is known for its natural integration into Tennessee’s landscape, presenting wide fairways framed by mature hardwoods and strategic bunkering. The course combines friendly playability with challenging pin positions, enhancing risk-reward decisions. The ongoing renovation includes updates to select holes and practice areas, aiming to maintain the course’s inviting flow while refreshing its character.

First time playing this course. Met my dad here after work and played the back 9 only because they were covered up, everybody was trying to get some golf in. Pretty nice course, friendly staff. Almost forgot, we saw 5 deer just casually walk across the course lol.

This was my first time playing at this course and I now know why. I scheduled a tee time for 2 at 12:51pm today and while we were teeing off the course manager decided to add a player to our game making us a 3 some. Now me personally, I don’t play golf with people I don’t know. Call it what you want but this is my time that I paid for to enjoy the experience of a game with my friends. I called the pro shop to explain my situation and was informed “there was nothing that they could do for me”, so I explained that I would come up with my own solution. Apparently they didn’t like that so they sent this Jimmy Neutron looking man in a tilt-a-wheel cart to then hassle me about why I didn’t want to play with a stranger. I explained the easiest solution was for him to mind his own business and let us carry on. This idiot then acted like an angry child and told us we could get our money back and leave. I have never had anyone added to my golf game against my wishes and honestly it goes against every reason I go play golf. If you love playing golf with your friends with no violation of your freedom of choice, DON’T PLAY HERE! “OLD FART GOLF COURSE” is not for me. This place sucks! The Managment sucks! And we will never be back here again! *1 thing I will say, this is the first golf course to offered a vegan, gluten-free, oil free snack. Thanks for that! 🤣🤣🤣

Beautiful golf course, they are remodeling too, expecting late fall 2024, I am excited to see how it turn out. Cost of driving range is getting higher, but I think everything is, staff is helpful and nice most of them. I have lesson with Trey Adam, he is Manager there too and he is so nice and great teacher. This year I will get the membership to take advantage of cheaper Drinks range, tee time and 6 hole court blooming field.

Had a great time playing the front 9 this week. Even after days of rain there was very little to no standing water in the fairways. The bunkers were wet but again no puddles of water. Course is in great shape. Pro shop employees were very kind and welcoming. Concession area was clean and the employee was friendly. Will absolutely be back.
