University Golf Club

Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaMetro Vancouver

University Golf Club blends classic parkland style with British Columbia’s coastal landscape to deliver an 18-hole private course that challenges accuracy and strategy. Known for its immaculate greens and the British Columbia Golf House Museum at Hole 8, it offers members an inviting yet competitive golfing experience.

Course Overview

Situated within Vancouver's vibrant southwest corridor, University Golf Club offers an 18-hole, private course that balances traditional parkland design with the natural contours of British Columbia's coastal foothills. The layout presents a thoughtful challenge for golfers of varied skill levels, weaving mature tree-lined fairways with subtle elevation changes and water hazards that demand strategic shot placement. The course’s maintained turf showcases consistent playing surfaces that reward precision and thoughtful club selection rather than sheer power.

The atmosphere here is quietly refined. Well-groomed greens undulate sharply in places, testing a player’s putting touch, while the fairways invite thoughtful approaches amid stands of towering evergreens and deciduous trees. Several par-4s require both accuracy off the tee and well-calculated second shots, with Hole 8 not only drawing attention for its challenge but also as the location of the British Columbia Golf House Museum, a unique feature where golf history intersects with the game itself.

University Golf Club is designed for members who appreciate a seamless blend of competitive golf and relaxed enjoyment. Despite ongoing course renovations, the course's conditions remain attentive to detail, with maintenance elevating both playability and aesthetic appeal. The clubhouse delivers a comfortable setting to unwind, combining views of the course with quality dining options that complement the day on the links.

Walking the University Golf Club is encouraged, with gentle elevation shifts making it accessible for players looking to experience crisp coastal air alongside the natural surroundings. Carts are available on request, but many favor the walk as it provides a fuller sense of the course’s character.

For visitors aiming to plan their rounds, peak season aligns with the mild Pacific Northwest summers, where firm fairways and receptive greens provide an ideal playing platform. The friendly staff and attentive course care create an environment that extends beyond golf, promising a memorable outing for those who value precision, tradition, and the understated beauty of a distinguished private course in Vancouver.

Course Highlights

The course’s hallmark is its mature, tree-lined fairways that guide players through varied terrain, combining firm, fast greens with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards. Hole 8 uniquely hosts the British Columbia Golf House Museum, adding cultural depth to the golfing experience. Its parkland layout integrates gentle coastal foothills, offering subtle elevation changes uncommon in the region’s courses.

This is a full length golf course on the Ubc university campus on the West End. It’s certainly been a staple of golfing experience in the city for many years. There’s no plans to remove it at all, and it is a challenging full length course in its own right. It’s a bit like Parkland style course. It wants its way across both sides of the main university entrance. There is a well stocked pro shop and associated restaurant, and the main building is a popular place for events, such as weddings and other large banquets. There is ability to become a member of the course as well which buys you some access to more premium teetimes and bookings, and maybe perhaps some discounts at the pro shop. There’s an associated driving range, which is great for having it so close to the city. I find that sometimes the greeter or Marshalls on the course for whatever reason are particularly abrasive and this has been over many many visits over the years. I’m not sure why this would be usually there more experienced generation there’s no real need for that with such lovely facilities, such a nice golf course and such a laid-back atmosphere for a public venue. Despite this will continue to come again as it’s just too convenient to be located so close to the city for avid golfers.

Not worth to play here anymore. Price gone up 30% with massive construction going on. Range balls now almost 50% more expansive than McCleery and Musqueam with long line up, old mats, uneven ground and no washroom on site. No practice green available. Practice green closed all time to public even no one is using it for teaching most of time. Green on Blanca is too far from driving range and closed now. Premium price with very average facilities. Although it’s in walking distance, I’d rather drive 10 min to other ranges nearby.

Dated June 17th, 2025 - Note that several holes are under construction and there is no change in price to reflect this (very disappointing). The price has gone up over the years (probably to help pay for the major course upgrades) and I don’t see the value in the course anymore when there are similar courses near by which are arguable the same quality for cheaper. Staff are always friendly, restaurant is good post round spot and the driving range is good/reasonably priced spot to practise although it’s usually always busy (wait time can be 5 to 25 minutes on average). Won’t be golfing here until construction is complete.

Totally beyond my expectations, as all the university courses I've ever played are all so so. A friend told me that as there's used to be a lot of rich people studied in UBC, hence the golf course had to be good enough to meet their bars. Anyway, I enjoyed playing golf here A LOT, though not that much design to wow you, but the condition and landscape itself both are so amazing. Particularly there's a "British Columbia Golf House Museum" at Hole 8, would love to spend sometime visiting it next time

This used to be a stunning golf course but they've decided to clear cut the healthy trees and will replace with wide open sand pits as part of an "improvement". It looks like a war zone.

The staff is very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately we didn’t get to golf, but cancelling our booking was easy and we got a full refund.

There are also disadvantages such as poor drainage, and above all, the cart is a diesel engine, so you have to ride around covered in smoke, and it is inconvenient because you cannot enter the fairway, and it is difficult to clean up divots.
