Wailea Golf - Three Premier Golf Courses on Maui, Hawaii

Wailea, Hawaii, USAMaui

Wailea Golf Club offers three stunning 18-hole championship courses on Maui, each blending strategic layouts with expansive ocean views. From the challenging Gold Course to the more approachable Emerald and Blue, Wailea suits golfers seeking both memorable scenery and quality playability.

Course Overview

Wailea Golf Club on Maui presents an unforgettable golf experience through its three distinct championship courses: the Gold, Emerald, and Blue. Each 18-hole layout offers exceptional design variety and breathtaking views, making Wailea one of Hawaii's premier golf destinations. The Gold Course commands attention with its challenging elevated tees that unfold across rugged terrain, testing players’ strategy and shot-making skills. Bunkers are frequent and well-positioned, requiring precision from tee to green. Many holes reveal sweeping ocean vistas, including the standout par-3 eighth hole with a downhill approach framed by crashing waves.

The Emerald Course combines playability and natural beauty, appealing to a broad range of golfers. Smooth, undulating greens and wide fairways wind through lush tropical vegetation and clusters of colorful native flowers. This course rewards thoughtful shot placement but remains welcoming for mid to high handicaps, making it an accessible yet engaging round. Hole 10 features a wide fairway with expansive ocean panoramas, inviting relaxed spacing between shots and a tranquil ambience.

The Blue Course offers a slightly more straightforward test with gently rolling fairways and fewer forced carries but still presents interesting strategic challenges, complemented by a striking landscape shaped by volcanic formations and ocean horizons. All three courses maintain immaculate conditions across greens and fairways, with thick but well-kept rough that demands careful navigation. Sand in bunkers remains soft and consistent, providing fair recovery opportunities.

Wailea’s amenities add to the experience, including a comprehensive driving range perched uphill to simulate course wind conditions, a chipping and putting green displaying similar undulations to the championship layouts, and a well-stocked pro shop featuring local and national brands. Golf carts equipped with GPS ease navigation, and attentive staff ensure pace of play remains steady. Walkers will appreciate firm cart paths and varied terrain that supports walking with sturdy footwear.

Overall, Wailea Golf Club’s three courses blend challenge and scenic grandeur, welcoming golfers from seasoned low handicaps seeking a test to those looking for a memorable island round infused with natural charm.

Course Highlights

Wailea Golf Club showcases commanding ocean views from nearly every hole, especially on the Gold and Emerald Courses. The Gold Course challenges with rugged slopes and tightly guarded greens, highlighted by a dramatic downhill par 3 (hole 8). The Emerald Course blends tropical landscaping with expansive fairways and smooth greens, ideal for a wide skill range. The Blue Course provides a gentler layout with volcanic terrain influencing natural contours and strategic choices. Impeccable course conditions and comprehensive practice facilities elevate the overall experience.

Review for the Gold course: First off, this is a beautiful course. You can see the ocean from almost every hole with scenic views. Tee boxes are all nicely kept with lots of grass. Of the Par3's will have divots from the other players, but there are no dead grass areas. The fairways are really great and wonderful to hit off. The grass is nice and full, with no bald spots that I could see. The rough here can get thick and a little tricky to hit out of, i should know I was here a lot. The rough tended to shut my face. It's thick grass, which is the nice part, not weeds. There isn't an overbearing amount of trees, but they seemed to be placed right where I miss my shots. Most of the greens are really nice and smooth. Very well maintained. The putts rolled smoothly and straight where I was aiming and starting the putt. On one or two of the greens, there were some bald spots, but nothing too bad. Bunkers! If you like bunkers and the beach, there are a lot of them on the gold course. Some big, some small, some wide, whatever you are looking for they have it. Every hole has bunkers, so look ahead to see if you can avoid them. All the bunkers do have nice sand and not hard packed down sand so hitting out of them should be good. The staff was great and friendly. We got out on time. They do give you an aluminum water bottle to fill up while you're on the course. The golf carts are also nice with GPS, but it does not have the breaks on the greens. Amenities: -Driving range - grass range, that you are hitting uphill. -Chipping and putting green - nice are to putt and chipping with lot of undulation. -Pro Shop - Sells a lot of clothes and a few golf clubs, Callaway's. We had a great experience here, and we are definitely coming back to play the gold course and the other two courses.

Played the Gold course and really enjoyed the layout and the conditions were excellent. Course was not busy in the afternoon and no wind! Greens and fairways were in excellent condition, bunkers have lots of sand and I was in quite a few. Great views as well. We had a really excellent time.

Where do I start? The staff were incredible! Attentive, genuine and truly welcoming. People were excited to share their enthusiams for golf and the amazing local/scenery. I had the privilage of play 3 times over a 2 week period, the consistency of interactions and quality standards are an example to the rest of the industry. The Gold course is harder than emrald, and more of a golfers course. It's challenging without being trecherous. As a 4hcp I enjoyed the harder experience and I gravitate to course that pose difficult shots. Not matter which course you chose to play I believe it will be a great experience. Top 3 courses I've played and truly memorable due to both the course, and most of all the welcoming staff. 100% worth the primetime rate. If you get the opportunity of visiting Wailea Golf, take it! Great place to enjoy an afternoon, I cannot say enough good things about it. Course Layout - Gold 9/10 Course Layout - Emrald 8/10 Facilities - 10/10 (awesome clubhouse, locker room super nice!) Food & Beverage - 7/10 (On course only, would have appreciated sandwhichs, staff member was still awesome) Staff - 19/20 (Friendly, happy, super attentive) I ranked each catergory based on 5pts being neutral, better experiences add pts, negative impacts takeaway. I believe staff members and interactions can make or break an experience, I value highly how staff treat guests thats why I believe its worth double the other catergories. I will be back at the earliest avalible opportunity.

The views were incredible throughout the whole course! My boyfriend played the Emerald course because we heard it has the best views and was the second most challenging course. He played great, the staff was super friendly and accommodating! If we come back to Hawaii I can 100% promise we will be back. We played in the morning and it was amazing weather the whole time we were there. We got through pretty quickly, no waiting for anyone ahead as tee times are spaced out perfectly to make it a very enjoyable experience. I absolutely recommend coming here!

The clubhouse offers a fantastic selection of stylish merchandise, and they even provide discounts if you’re staying in hotels in the Wailea area. One unique feature is the special topless cart you take to the driving range. The chipping green is in superb condition, so set aside some time before your round to enjoy it, it will give you a good feel of what the actual greens will be like. The golf course itself is both challenging and breathtaking, making it absolutely worth every dollar. Everything is impeccably maintained, and their service truly enhances the experience. Make sure to grab a bag tag before you leave, same for all your Hawaii courses. Highly recommend this course to anyone visiting Wailea

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely incredible golf experience at Wailea Golf Club! I had the chance to play both the Gold and Emerald Courses, and they completely exceeded my expectations. The Gold Course is a golfer’s dream. It’s challenging but so rewarding, with perfectly designed holes that make you think strategically. Hole #8, with its downhill par 3 and stunning ocean views, was absolutely breathtaking. The rugged terrain and immaculate fairways made this course unforgettable. The Emerald Course was equally amazing but in a more relaxing way. It’s less demanding than the Gold, but the lush landscaping and vibrant tropical flowers are just mesmerizing. Hole #10, with its wide fairway and panoramic ocean view, was a personal favorite. Both courses are impeccably maintained, and the views of the Pacific, Molokini, and Haleakalā are unbeatable. I enjoyed every minute here—it’s paradise for any golfer. Can’t wait to come back!

Wailea Gold was 10/10. Highlights: - Greens: phenomenal. Ran fast but fair. Can’t be above the pin but setup rewarded shotmaking. Compare to Kapalua Bay Course with greens that were essentially unplayable - Pace: played early morning sub 4 hours. Felt like a slice of paradise to ourselves, barely saw other players - Staff: everyone was courteous and helpful. Beverage cart was particularly awesome (thanks Tia!) - Design: this is really an interesting test of golf. You need to think your way around the course. I could see good golfers going very low or very high depending on strategy

Claude Brosseau the PGA Master Professional coach was amazing! Best lesson I've ever had. He also can continue remote lessons when I go back. Very happy with the lesson for me and my wife and I would recommend him to anybody else on the fence or interested to ask for Claude.
