The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout with a breezy links-style design that challenges golfers to balance precision and strategy amid coastal influences. Its inviting playability and well-maintained facilities make it an excellent choice for players seeking an engaging round on Maui.
Course Overview
The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course presents an 18-hole challenge that invites golfers across all skill levels to engage with a links-style layout that unfolds just minutes from Kahului’s urban pulse. This public facility blends coastal influences with a subtly undulating terrain, delivering a course experience marked by strategic variety and shifting wind conditions typical of island play. From the opening tee through to the 18th green, the landscape reveals stretches of manicured fairways interspersed with native grasses and water features that demand measured shot selection.
The course’s design emphasizes target golf, particularly after the initial three holes, requiring thoughtful navigation around bunkers and carefully contoured greens. Playability suits both newcomers seeking an accessible pace and seasoned players looking to test their precision. The occasional gusts curling off the nearby Pacific Ocean add an unpredictable element, encouraging golfers to maintain focus on tempo and trajectory.
Amenities include well-maintained rental clubs, notably Titleist sets praised by recent visitors, and friendly staff providing attentive service throughout the round. The practice facilities support a thorough warm-up before stepping onto the first tee, ensuring players can prepare their full arsenal.
Accommodation of foot traffic is embraced here, with a walking-friendly layout that encourages appreciation of the course’s natural rhythm. Though the terrain is relatively even, quality course shoes are recommended due to occasional sandy patches and coastal breezes.
While the front stretch offers some of the most photogenic views, the course maintains its charm beyond, with abundant birdlife occasionally wandering close to play areas. Golfers seeking a competitive but enjoyable round on Maui will find The Dunes at Maui Lani a rewarding destination that balances challenge and approachability in equal measure.
Practical advice for planning a visit includes arriving early to confirm tee times and taking advantage of the convenient location off Maui Lani Parkway, which provides straightforward access without the crowds of more tourist-centric locales. Players entering the course’s gates can expect an engaging round that reflects Maui’s golfing spirit without unnecessary complication.
Course Highlights
The course’s layout demands strategic shot placement with its coastal winds adding complexity from early on, especially beyond the initial three holes. Signature traits include well-placed bunkers that challenge approach shots and greens that reward precise putting. The proximity to the Pacific introduces natural elements such as seabirds and gentle trade winds, enhancing the authentic island golf atmosphere.

One of the most beautiful well maintained courses I’ve ever played. The staff was amazing and all the workers were friendly and courteous. Well worth playing. I came from the cruise ship and Ubered there and back with no problem. The rental clubs were Titleist and in great shape. I highly recommended this course.

Great links course with lots of challenge and variety, although not quite as well cared-for as we’ve seen it on past visits

My husband enjoyed this golf course alot. I rode along with them for the 18 holes. The first few were very scenic but the other holes are less scenic but still nice. There are tons of ducks and chicks on the green which was super cute. They just come running to you naively and lovingly. The price was also reasonable. The service was interesting. The men at the front looked irritable and not very pleasant.

What a fun track! Demanding layout and very much target golf after the first 3 holes. All staff were friendly and delivered exceptional service. Rental clubs were in great shape too, which can be a rarity. Will absolutely be back. Highly recommend playing here if you’ve not already!

They allowed us to book a 3:40pm tee time online. Upon arriving, we were just bluntly told "You know you're not going to finish, right?" They start shutting the course down at 5pm and "... don't have a 9 hole rate, so you're going to be charged for the full 18 if you want to play 9." So they allow you to reserve times you can't play and don't tell you until you make the drive there. Customer service was short and bad in our experience. The 5 of us left without playing.

Got a tee time at 3, told us AFTER we swiped our cards to pay that carts needed to be in by 6, we got no discount and had to pay full price. Pace of play in front of us was clapped so we only got to 13 when Marshall told us to go up to 17 and skip 4 holes. If they gonna make us come in so early at least tell us before we pay full price to not play the whole course. Very nice course tho and would’ve been an amazing experience if they actually let us play the whole thing despite us paying full price. Beautiful views and great fairways.
