Kenai Golf Course

Kenai, Alaska, USAKenai Peninsula

Kenai Golf Course provides a welcoming 18-hole layout tailored for beginning and intermediate golfers on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. Its open fairways and natural surroundings create a relaxed atmosphere where wind and weather influence the play, making it a practical choice for those seeking approachable golf amid rugged scenery.

Course Overview

Kenai Golf Course offers a straightforward yet engaging golfing experience across its 18 holes, set within the natural expanse of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. This public course presents a modest layout that caters primarily to beginners and intermediate golfers eager to explore the regional terrain without the pressures of a more demanding championship venue. Unlike traditional parkland or coastal courses, Kenai unfolds amid open fairways bordered by native grasses and clusters of spruce, allowing the Alaskan wind to play a subtle but persistent role in shot selection and course strategy.

The overall landscape reflects its northern latitude with an unpretentious charm. Greens are functional with some unevenness, revealing a course largely shaped by seasonal conditions and local maintenance efforts rather than extensive landscaping. Players can expect some variability in turf conditions and should come prepared for soft ground during wetter periods. The environment encourages a measured tempo to the round where appreciation of the surrounding wilderness blends with the rhythm of play.

Kenai Golf Course is particularly suited for newcomers and those interested in a relaxed round with reasonable fees, making it a practical choice for residents and visitors alike seeking accessible golf without frills. Staff members are noted for their welcoming approach, often assisting novices with clinics or friendly advice to improve their enjoyment and confidence on the course.

Though the course lacks elaborate hazards or iconic architectural features, its honest design challenges golfers to judge wind and distance carefully. The relatively flat terrain also makes walking an inviting option for those who prefer to experience the course on foot. While the pace of play tends to be unhurried, players should plan their visit around seasonal weather patterns, aiming for the summer months when conditions are most stable.

Amenities include a driving range and practice facilities that support warm-up sessions before heading out. The clubhouse serves as a communal spot to gather, offering basic refreshments and a glimpse into local hospitality. Kenai Golf Course stands as a practical, unpretentious venue where players can enjoy Alaska’s quieter side of golf and build foundational skills in a scenic but straightforward setting.

Course was in pretty good shape and greens were getting there for mid June. But the new rates don’t justify playing here. 60$ for residents and 90$ for non residents to walk 18 holes is robbery

Great and friensly staff and a very cool layout for the course. Very reasonable prices. Easily the best course on the peninsula. The only downside would be the state of the greens, which are a little bumpy. Despite that, all are very playable

The Kenai golf course is a nice beginner ski course that is groomed for classic and skate skiing. There are one or two nice views but otherwise it is what you would expect for a golf course. If it is windy there is no protection from the trees. Get out and enjoy our local trails.

After having a bad experience at Bird Homestead Golf Course in Soldotna, I decided on Kenai Golf Course where we were met by a friendly staff. My son & myself are beginners & they saw that (blatantly obvious with how poorly we were doing) so we were approached with an offer for a lesson rather than holding up other players. I wasn’t offended at all but relieved as I don’t even know proper form let alone where to go. The gentleman who schooled us was patient & informative. My son & I both learned a lot today. Kenai Golf Course will be our go to & we’ll spend more time on the driving range learning form before going through the actual course.

I understand that the bar for Alaska golf is low (ranked dead last among US states), but this is the lowliest dog track I've ever stepped foot on. The course has more dead grass than not in the middle of June. Beyond that, driving the golf cart through the fairway is reminiscent of choppy water - you might need a visit to the chiropractor afterward. Do yourself a favor and light your $100 bill on fire instead of playing this course. The entertainment value is higher. 0/5, if possible.
