Shell Landing Golf Club

Gautier, Mississippi, USAGulf Coast Mississippi

Shell Landing Golf Club offers an accessible yet challenging 18-hole public course along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Featuring strategic water hazards amid coastal marshlands, it appeals to players who appreciate natural landscapes paired with thoughtful design and well-conditioned playing surfaces.

Course Overview

Shell Landing Golf Club presents an 18-hole challenge set amid the unique coastal marshlands of Gautier, Mississippi. This public course offers a fresh alternative for golfers seeking a blend of natural beauty and strategic play, with fairways sweeping through saltwater marshes and natural wetlands that shape not only the scenery but also key strategic decisions on each hole. The course layout, stretching just over 7,000 yards with a par of 72, plays as a compelling test without overwhelming players of average skill, striking a balance that welcomes both intermediate and low-handicap golfers.

From tee to green, Shell Landing emphasizes a connection to the environment. Water hazards punctuate the routing, requiring thoughtful shot placement and a sound course management approach to navigate successfully. The greens are known for their smooth but subtly undulating surfaces, rewarding precise approach shots and delicate putting skills. Wind often carries from the nearby Gulf Coast, adding an additional layer of complexity that tests tempo and club selection throughout the round.

The course’s open routing reveals sweeping vistas of marsh grass and live oaks draped in Spanish moss, offering moments of quiet that contrast with the intensity of the holes themselves. The conditioning of the fairways and greens generally receives high marks; players report excellent maintenance that enhances both aesthetics and playability. Shell Landing’s practice facilities are well-appointed, featuring ample space for warm-up stretches, chipping, and putting.

As a public venue, the club provides a welcoming yet purposeful setting, offering a pace of play that suits those who appreciate a measured, thoughtful round. Although the service and rental equipment have drawn mixed reviews, the experience on the turf remains the primary draw for visitors. Walking the course is encouraged, with flat, well-maintained paths making navigation comfortable even for those new to walking layouts.

Shell Landing Golf Club stands out as a coastal course that tests skill without sacrificing accessibility. It’s a fitting destination for those who seek the interplay of natural elements and golf strategy along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast.

Course Highlights

Shell Landing is distinguished by its setting within coastal saltwater marshes, demanding precise shot placement around natural water hazards. I played Shell Landing during a long golf vacation across the South back when I lived in NJ. What a great course to play, very picturesque with many challenging holes. I hope to return there one day to enjoy the course again.

Fun course with a challenging layout, fast greens and manicured fairways. The cart GPS keeps you out of a par-5 fairway in dry conditions (and other places at times) which does slow your pace of play occasionally. As a whole, well worth the trip to play. Enjoy.

Great rate if you play regularly here. Get the discount thingy which should be good for a year from purchase. Greens, fairways and views are extraordinarily beautiful. Golf carts are cool.

Wow what an amazing track. Conditions are perfect. Nice to finally play a course with greens that were not freshly punched. The course was relatively empty but I ended up catching a twosome then a single joined on the back nine. Warm up area was nice and spacious. Plenty of space for chipping, putting, and hitting all clubs. It was windy today so it kept the bugs away according to the locals I got paired with. Range balls were cleaned and in decent condition. Recommend putting sings up for distances on the range. Also recommend when checking in to let players know pin positions because all pins were the same color flagsticks. I was not sure if the flags were accurate based on the GPS. Plenty of water cans but no beverage cart to be seen today, granted it was Easter Sunday. No Marshall either. Pro shop was well stocked and bathroom was a bit dated but cleaned. I would definitely play here again as it was not too far from NOLA.

Course was in fantastic shape. Greens ran and tee boxes immaculate. Sadly it was the service that was quite lacking. For a 3:06pm tee time me and my two buddies paid ~$400 to rent clubs and play 18 with cart. The rentals were Cobras seemingly from the early 2000s, maybe the 90s. A putter easily from the 80s. ($30 rental) Came with no balls and no tees. We played the entire front 9 without seeing the cart girl. (Was told the quit at 5pm) Upon finishing our round (7pm) the entire clubhouse was locked up and the only person left was the cart barn guy. I’ve played local municipal course with more to offer for way less. Enjoyed the course. But sadly will look elsewhere for where to make a regular appearance.

This will be long but useful. I have been a member at Shell since Dec 2024. This place is what golf is all about and I can't believe I get to play here. A naturally beautiful environment that is lovingly cared for by people who care about Golf and the land. The staff is amazing, you can tell they enjoy their work environment and that takes leadership. I have had long memberships at 5 courses, Biscester Golf Club UK, Tramark Golf Club, Pass Christian Isles, Windance and The Oaks, but this is the pinnacle! This place is where a peaceful natural golf environment exists. Enjoy the walk! The reviewers who didn't give this place 5 stars live in a different world than me.

I don’t want to give them 1 star to bring their rating down because I didn’t get the chance to play, but I want to share my experience for anyone hitting the coast with their significant other. Had a planned tee time as a solo, month in advance as I’m coming from out of town. I called to ask about a rider fee for my wife, I was told that’s not available due to limited carts. I understand this, so I let them know id come with my push cart & walk. I was told that’s not allowed. Confused, I asked whats next. He said I could ride in the cart & my wife walk behind the entire group OR she could ride in the cart with my clubs & I walk behind the group. What sense does that make? The pace of play would be atrocious in that situation, more than if I just walked! So just a heads up in case you are on vacation or headed that way with a significant other. Of the dozens of courses I’ve played over the years, this is the first & only one to have this weird of an approach. Thankfully the preserve was able to slip me in last second (and my wife as a walker) & Fallen Oak is of course taking care of us on Sunday.
