University Golf Club

Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaGreater Vancouver

University Golf Club offers an 18-hole private parkland layout that blends classic golf tradition with British Columbia’s natural scenery. Thoughtfully maintained fairways and challenging greens create an engaging and approachable test for a range of golfers near Vancouver.

Course Overview

Situated on the western edge of Vancouver, University Golf Club presents an 18-hole layout that thoughtfully balances classic golf traditions with the natural contours of British Columbia’s landscape. As a private course, University Golf Club invites experienced golfers seeking a quietly refined setting where the game’s nuances come to the fore. The parkland design emphasizes rolling fairways framed by towering evergreens and native foliage, creating pockets of tranquility interrupted only by the strategic demands of the course.

Played over roughly 6,500 yards to a par of 71, the course rewards precision and course management. Golfers encounter a series of holes that challenge shot placement as well as approach creativity, with well-guarded greens and carefully positioned bunkers that shape risk-reward decisions. Despite recent renovations and partial construction affecting several holes as of mid-2025, the course maintains a high standard of turf quality, with greens in particular responding smoothly underfoot.

Those who appreciate the blend of challenge and playability will find University Golf Club approachable for a range of handicaps while still engaging skilled players eager to test their full repertoire. The facility’s commitment to maintaining pristine conditions shines through in the fairways and rough, offering a consistent experience regardless of score.

Beyond the course, the clubhouse provides a welcoming space featuring a quality dining option to wind down after play. Golfers frequent the well-maintained driving range, though busy periods call for some patience. The course’s location near the University of British Columbia campus adds an invigorating urban backdrop without detracting from the golf’s quiet focus.

Visitors planning a round should consider that some holes may be undergoing improvement work, so checking tee time availability and course conditions in advance is advised. Walking the course is encouraged, with carefully placed paths and terrain that rewards a measured pace, while appropriate footwear enhances comfort on the subtle inclines and softer ground.

University Golf Club stands as a solid option for golfers wanting an authentic parkland experience within Vancouver’s vibrant golf scene, balancing tradition and thoughtful evolution in its ongoing presentation.

This is a full length golf course on the Ubc university campus on the West End. It’s certainly been a staple of golfing experience in the city for many years. There’s no plans to remove it at all, and it is a challenging full length course in its own right. It’s a bit like Parkland style course. It wants its way across both sides of the main university entrance. There is a well stocked pro shop and associated restaurant, and the main building is a popular place for events, such as weddings and other large banquets. There is ability to become a member of the course as well which buys you some access to more premium teetimes and bookings, and maybe perhaps some discounts at the pro shop. There’s an associated driving range, which is great for having it so close to the city. I find that sometimes the greeter or Marshalls on the course for whatever reason are particularly abrasive and this has been over many many visits over the years. I’m not sure why this would be usually there more experienced generation there’s no real need for that with such lovely facilities, such a nice golf course and such a laid-back atmosphere for a public venue. Despite this will continue to come again as it’s just too convenient to be located so close to the city for avid golfers.

Not worth to play here anymore. Price gone up 30% with massive construction going on. Range balls now almost 50% more expansive than McCleery and Musqueam with long line up, old mats, uneven ground and no washroom on site. No practice green available. Practice green closed all time to public even no one is using it for teaching most of time. Green on Blanca is too far from driving range and closed now. Premium price with very average facilities. Although it’s in walking distance, I’d rather drive 10 min to other ranges nearby.

Dated June 17th, 2025 - Note that several holes are under construction and there is no change in price to reflect this (very disappointing). The price has gone up over the years (probably to help pay for the major course upgrades) and I don’t see the value in the course anymore when there are similar courses near by which are arguable the same quality for cheaper. Staff are always friendly, restaurant is good post round spot and the driving range is good/reasonably priced spot to practise although it’s usually always busy (wait time can be 5 to 25 minutes on average). Won’t be golfing here until construction is complete.

There are also disadvantages such as poor drainage, and above all, the cart is a diesel engine, so you have to ride around covered in smoke, and it is inconvenient because you cannot enter the fairway, and it is difficult to clean up divots.

Totally beyond my expectations, as all the university courses I've ever played are all so so. A friend told me that as there's used to be a lot of rich people studied in UBC, hence the golf course had to be good enough to meet their bars. Anyway, I enjoyed playing golf here A LOT, though not that much design to wow you, but the condition and landscape itself both are so amazing. Particularly there's a "British Columbia Golf House Museum" at Hole 8, would love to spend sometime visiting it next time

The staff is very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately we didn’t get to golf, but cancelling our booking was easy and we got a full refund.

This used to be a stunning golf course but they've decided to clear cut the healthy trees and will replace with wide open sand pits as part of an "improvement". It looks like a war zone.
