Woodley Lakes Golf Course

Van Nuys, California, USAGreater Los Angeles

Woodley Lakes Golf Course presents a wide-open, approachable 18-hole layout set within a unique flood basin environment in Van Nuys, California. With generous fairways, well-kept greens, and accessible practice facilities, it offers a practical yet memorable golf experience for players of all levels.

Course Overview

Woodley Lakes Golf Course offers a refreshing escape from the bustle of Los Angeles, situated conveniently just off the 101 Freeway in Van Nuys. This public 18-hole layout benefits from its location within the Sepulveda Dam flood control basin, creating a sprawling, open setting defined by wide fairways and generous green complexes. The terrain is predominantly flat, making it comfortable for players of all skill levels who seek an approachable yet engaging test of golf.

Playing Woodley Lakes invites a relaxed pace, with plenty of room to swing freely thanks to the course's notably broad fairways. While the roughs are not heavily maintained, they rarely punish errant shots harshly, allowing golfers to recover without excessive frustration. The greens are well cared for, smooth but presenting a subtle challenge with moderate speeds and often tricky reads.

The landscape itself shifts with the seasons, influenced by occasional flooding that saturates the soil and promotes lush greenery. This vulnerability to weather does not diminish the conscientious upkeep seen throughout the year. The natural park setting nearby enhances the sense of openness, with trees and water features that complement the course’s quiet, friendly character.

Woodley Lakes also includes practical amenities such as a driving range with real grass tees, ideal for warming up or refining your swing under open skies. Though it lacks covered bays, the practice area offers ample space for long and short game drills, reinforcing the course’s emphasis on accessible play. The clubhouse, while modest, provides a comfortable spot to regroup and socialize after your round.

Golfers appreciate the inviting atmosphere here, with a layout that rewards strategic shot-making rather than sheer power. Weekend rounds can be busier, so weekdays may offer a more leisurely experience. Carts are included in most rounds, yet the flat footprint makes walking simple for those who prefer it. Friendly staff and well-maintained facilities round out a course that serves both casual players and those aiming to lower their scores.

Whether you’re looking to build confidence or enjoy a midweek outing, Woodley Lakes Golf Course offers solid value and a genuine connection to Southern California’s outdoor charm.

Course Highlights

Wide fairways that provide forgiving landing areas, well-maintained yet subtly challenging greens, and a unique setting within the Sepulveda Dam basin contribute to Woodley Lakes’ distinct character. I like playing this course. It’s friendly for the golfer who sprays it all over the place. You can go low out there and boost your confidence. It has a driving range with real grass but no cover. You can bake in the sun while you beat balls. There’s some reasonably nice short game practice areas. The 19th hole is great. I think some people go there just for that.

A nice out-of-the-way golf course a bit off the beaten path of the other local courses within a block of the 101 Freeway. It’s a fairly good golf course and driving range that doesn’t seem so busy on weekdays though the weekends can be more crowded. I love the wide open space with local park facilities within walking distance. The golf club house is very nice with its facilities, though when I went, the restrooms were closed. The downside is, as part of the Sepulveda Dam flood control basin it’s prone to flooding with significant rainfall. On the upside, a little flooding helps the greenery thrive, thus a beautiful area with the saturated soil!

The course you may break your best score. This course is pretty flat & wide. Not maintained rough area, but don't worry about getting in rough. Huge fairway on every hole. greens are maintained very well. 4 and half hrs for 18 holes with 60 bucks included cart.

Five Stars – Great Day at Woodley Lakes Golf Course! Had an amazing time golfing at Woodley Lakes Golf Course! The course was in great shape—beautiful layout and a fun challenge from start to finish. The staff was excellent across the board. We had lunch inside before our round and were so hungry we ended up grabbing food again on the course. Huge shoutout to Natalie, the cart girl—we ran into her twice and she was fantastic both times. Super friendly, professional, and brought great energy. She really added to the experience. It looked like they might’ve been a little short-staffed, but you’d never know it. The whole team was working hard and kept things running smoothly. Looking forward to coming back!

Fun golf course! Wide, on the mediumush long distance course. Occasional dirt patches, but overall well maintained. Greens are def on the slower side, but are very well maintained, and are difficult to read. Jennifer in the Pro Shop was very helpful and kind.

This course has the air of a countey club in some ways. Very nice course with good greens and fairways. Pace of play is a concern due to so many beginners that cannot give up on their OB balls and just drop a new one and keep on playing, or intermediate golfers playing from the blacks and driving it 180 yards. So frustrating. Other than pace of play, this is a truly awesome course!
