Gannon Municipal Golf Course
Gannon Municipal Golf Course offers a compelling public layout of 18 challenging and hilly holes just outside Boston. Its elevated greens and blind shots create a strategic test amid scenic parkland rolling terrain, suited for golfers who value thoughtful gameplay and a walkable yet demanding environment.
Course Overview
Located in Lynn, Massachusetts, Gannon Municipal Golf Course occupies a distinctive place in the public golf scene of the Boston area. This 18-hole course charts a landscape defined by its pronounced hills and sweeping elevation changes, offering players an experience that blends natural beauty with a rugged test of skill. Its parkland layout moves across rolling terrain where sightlines often disappear beyond rises, creating blind shots that challenge your course management as much as your swing.
Players will find that the course demands careful navigation, especially since several greens are elevated and tucked out of view from the tee boxes. The 17th hole stands out with its 200-yard uphill par 3, requiring a commitment club selection and precision when you cannot see the putting surface until you ascend. The interplay of elevation and hidden hazards rewards strategic play and patience, making Gannon an ideal setting for those who appreciate a course that stimulates thoughtful shot-making.
Despite the demanding topography, the course remains walkable and invites players to engage deeply with its varied contours and natural features. Golfers equipped with GPS watches will gain an advantage, as traditional rangefinders often struggle with the line-of-sight challenges throughout the round.
The clubhouse offers a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and a bar featuring an outdoor terrace overlooking the 18th green. This space presents an inviting spot to unwind after play, savoring a drink while reflecting on the course’s complexities and scenic elements.
Gannon Municipal is well maintained and suits golfers who enjoy a classic, old-school public course that does not shy away from testing all aspects of the game. While the layout is more favorable to experienced players due to its blind shots and hilly character, many find it rewarding to play multiple rounds and gain familiarity with its nuances. Planning a visit? The course’s parking is ample, and while walking is encouraged, be prepared for a workout on the hills and wear sturdy shoes to navigate uneven ground comfortably.
Gannon Municipal Golf Course blends a scenic, elevated terrain with a practical test of golf, delivering an engaging outing that reveals new challenges with every hole.

What an incredibly beautiful course it is, maybe particularly because of the season of foliage. Unlike its scenery, however, the course isn’t really enjoyable because the entire course is very hilly and you have so many blind spots between teeing grounds and greens, and also many holes are actually out of sight at all from tees. Walk is not recommended at all, and you have to drive your cart forth and back to check if players ahead of you are away or not. 17th par 3 hole of 200yard is substantially uphill so that you can’t see players on green. The bar in the clubhouse was more friendly atmosphere than any others I’ve been near Boston. Sitting at the outside terrace, looking over the 18th hole is great for a pint of beer. Btw, if you use Garmin golf equipments, please note that the map on the garmin is out dated and GPS doesn’t work.

Went for a function here. The food was catered and good. There were steps to get up to the function room and the bar. There was a handicap ramp in the back to use. There were bathrooms downstairs that were locked and bathrooms upstairs to use that were open next to bar. The place was not very pretty. The staff was nice and the building on the outside was gorgeous. Plenty of parking as well.

Such a beautiful place. Great place for our work get together. I've also had a baby shower here. Great time for both occasions. Maybe I should take up golf 🤔

Excellent public course. Lots of blind shots - so best to play with someone who can guide you on your first time. Your rangefinder won’t do you much good here as well since the greens are elevated and hidden / blind on many holes…a GPS watch would be better. Greens were very nice…and challenging…very few flat greens. Also very scenic and hilly - but still very walkable unlike some newer courses. This is an old school course with a vintage but fun clubhouse…and a true hidden gem. I was impressed and will return.

Played here over Labor Day weekend for the first time. It was quite a challenging course- quite hilly and a bunch of hazards on the back 9. The course was overall very well maintained- would probably have enjoyed it more if I had played better. 😅
