Course Overview

Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course presents a distinctive challenge within the rolling landscape of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. This public 18-hole layout weaves dynamic elevation changes and varied terrain into an accessible yet rewarding experience suitable for a broad range of abilities. The course’s design balances strategic shot-making with straightforward playability, making it an inviting venue for newcomers while still testing the skills of more experienced players.

Spread across gently undulating grounds, the yardage and par provide a framework that demands thoughtfulness off the tee and precision on approach shots. With notable elevation shifts, several holes require golfers to carefully select clubs and control trajectory, especially when confronting the back nine, where the course reveals its more challenging character. The greens vary in speed and contour, pushing players to sharpen their putting touch amid subtle breaks.

Water management has posed challenges after heavy rain, though staff efforts maintain overall playability and course conditioning. The 17th hole offers one of the more striking vantage points on the course, where a glance back toward the clubhouse creates a satisfying visual reward. The clubhouse itself houses the Hemlock Grill, known for approachable fare and a welcoming atmosphere enhanced by the rich aroma from its outdoor smoker.

Practice facilities include a driving range with quality mats and targets that support solid warm-up routines or skill refinement. Walking the course offers an engaging physical experience given the varied terrain, though players should wear supportive footwear to navigate some steeper gradients comfortably.

Lynch Municipal is best suited for golfers who appreciate a course that blends natural elevation with practical challenges, and who enjoy a relaxed, family-friendly municipal setting. Though it shows signs of heavy use, the combination of variety, strategic interest, and a convivial atmosphere make it a practical destination for everyday rounds as well as casual outings.

Plan to visit during dry weather for the best turf conditions and take advantage of the clubhouse amenities to round out your day.

This course captures a balance between municipal accessibility and a thoughtful golf experience, encouraging repeated play and steady improvement.

Great elevation changes off tee and approach shots to green. Drainage system under fairways would need improvement. Overall, a really good experience and nicely priced!

The WORST course I have ever played at. The greens and fairway's had so many holes and were covered with water. When I brought this to the attention of the head gold pro, he claimed he had no idea the course looked so bad and that my opinion did not matter to him. The old guy with the beard who seems to oversee golfers was extremely extremely rude aswell. Save your money and go to a different course.

Best Muni i think I've played in over a decade. I'm currently a 12ish handicap and this back nine was tough but fair. Probably will do better next time as a lot of shots were blind. I hit mainly a mix of 3 through 6 iron off the white tees and was about 130-160 out. Not excessively long. But fun with doglegs, bunkers, elevated greens, challenging landing areas, etc. Kept me on my toes and forced me to get creative a bunch. You'll find a few areas that are being repaired, especially after big rains. Don't fret. Pull out your Texas wedge, kick the ball 10 feet, and go back to dominating your friends. The rest of the group was a 25+ handicap and they had a blast with no issue still scoring in line with their abilities. Beautiful views, greens rolling well, cart girl visited 3 times during the round, well maintained range, carts that have Bluetooth and digital, accurate distances, relatively quick play (4.5 hrs on a Saturday), cool wildlife (falcons and blue jays), and a truly gorgeous clubhouse. The view coming down 18 was amazing. Don't worry about performing in front of the people eating lunch at the clubhouse, they probably won't judge you for blading your gap wedge to the moon. Loved the 19th hole. Killer fried chicken sandwich and they had BBQ straight out of a smoker as well. Very reasonable prices for food and drinks throughout. Love this course. For the money, incredible deal.

Recently had an outing with 3 buddies. One who was from our of state kept saying how he couldn't believe it was a municipal course. We all ranged in skill level and really enjoyed it. The best of us stated that he found some of the holes very challenging. I loved the auto distance and blue tooth speakers on the cart! We played after a heavy rain and the crew must have done a great job with the water. The real treat is when you get to the 17th and the view of the club house. The restaurant (Hemlock Grill) had great food, plus the aroma from the BBQ in smoker is a bonus! Would play again!

I come here pretty often and absolutely love it! Great range, pro shop, and cheap food. The course itself definitely ranges in difficulty (especially on the back 9) and it’s a great challenge! Staff is always helpful and friendly. An overall great time, definitely recommend!!

Good grass, except rushy stuff in a golf cart will keep telling you to go faster despite nobody’s behind — from what i can remember this is the second time. I don’t see playing 9 holes in 2 hours a problem

Great food. The range is pure, personally I like the mats and balls they have. Pretty reasonable pricing for a bucket, considering range targets and such. Not five stars, because of the course. The 15th green is literally a 45* slope, pretty illegal. The fairways are kind of rough but not to be taken for granted.

It’s a Munie folks! Don’t get carried away with expectations. It’s cheap, and well located. It’s not on the PGA Tour. Really open course, but due to necessity the drainage around the course eats golf balls. Hit ‘em straight and you’ll be fine. Easier said than done for me though.
