George Wright Golf Course

Boston, Massachusetts, USAGreater Boston

George Wright Golf Course delivers an accessible yet challenging urban golf experience just outside Boston. With its rolling parkland layout, hilly terrain, and a standout par-5 15th hole, it provides a well-conditioned course that caters to a broad range of players seeking value and quality in a municipal setting.

Course Overview

George Wright Golf Course in Hyde Park, Massachusetts offers an engaging municipal golf experience that challenges and rewards players across skill levels. This 18-hole, par-70 layout winds through a landscape defined by rolling hills and mature trees, requiring thoughtful shot selection amid subtle elevation changes. The course’s natural contours come alive here, with fairways that undulate and greens that slope in ways demanding precise approach shots and steady putting.

While the terrain introduces a moderate degree of difficulty, George Wright balances this with approachable tee boxes and forgiving landing areas, making it a satisfying test for both everyday golfers and those seeking a bit more strategic depth. Notable is the par-5 15th hole, a signature stretch that starts with an elevated tee shot offering a commanding view downhill. Players who can shape a controlled drive find themselves in prime position to reach the green in two, though the hole’s hazards and contours firmly discourage complacency.

The course maintains a well-kept, parkland style framed by native trees and natural water features that influence both shot execution and course management. Attention to conditioning is evident from tee to green, reflecting a commitment to quality municipal golf in an urban setting.

Located just outside Boston, George Wright benefits from easy accessibility. Public transportation options connect golfers directly from the city, while ample parking accommodates those arriving by car. Walking the course presents a solid workout due to its hilly terrain; sturdy shoes are recommended for players who want to fully embrace the footpath experience. Although some cart path routing can be tricky to navigate, walking remains the preferred approach for those wanting an immersive golf day.

The clubhouse provides basic amenities including food and beverages to complement your round, although players report that the focus remains firmly on course maintenance and playability. Overall, George Wright serves as a hidden gem among Boston’s municipal golf offerings—inviting a refreshing, no-frills day on the links that blends challenge with accessibility in equal measure.

Course Highlights

The course is defined by its rolling topography and mature tree-lined fairways typical of classic parkland style. The signature 15th hole offers an elevated tee shot with a dramatic downhill approach, testing distance control and strategy. While navigability of cart paths can pose some challenges, the course’s maintenance shows a clear priority to turf quality and playability. As a Boston-area muni, George Wright stands out for combining natural elevation changes with an inviting urban setting.

Played 5/16/25 What a course. Was in Boston for a work trip and decided to squeeze a round in. The place was greener than money in the bank. The course was in great condition from tee box to green. Although the cart paths are a bit of guessing game sometime. The layout was above average with lots of elevation change and some decent scenery. While the club house is visually appealing (architecturally wise, if you're into that sort of thing) it was a bit of a letdown, bar and food/snacks were fine, just could use a little TLC, but being a city muni, money isn't always at the ready. Public bus stop is right outside the parking lot that takes you all the way to the Orange line and back into the city center if you don't have a car or uber is $$$. 5/5 would play again.

The course is in great shape - as good as it has in years. To me, the Wright & Franklin Park are the hidden gems in Boston. The clubhouse food is bad - it used to be great! Now even a hot dog is just ok. Why change things that work? The clubhouse bar was quiet - used to be busy. Course is A+ and the restaurant is D.

Great course. 5 17 25. We returned to this tremendous golf course. First I had breakfast at the Hemlock Grille. Then we hit the links. The place is in top notched condition. Of course I kept up with my consistent inconsistent play. The team here does an outstanding job .

Boston residents can enjoy this beautiful course @ $41 only. I walked but it was a bit challenging as some holes are hilly. Many holes need blind shots so that you have to be extremely careful. Geese are everywhere and they don’t afraid of you. #15 par5 hole can be a signature hole. From the tee elevated, you command a long downhill drive. When you have a nice cut driver shot, then you may try second shot land on green. After playing the both, I prefer William J. Devine course.
