Arrowhead Country Club

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USAGrand Strand

Arrowhead Country Club offers two distinct 18-hole courses weaving through cypress-lined fairways and winding waterways. Its challenging layouts balance precision and playability, making it an inviting destination for golfers seeking quality golf near Myrtle Beach.

Course Overview

Arrowhead Country Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina offers a compelling blend of challenge and charm across its two primary 18-hole layouts, the Cypress and the Waterway courses. Both courses stretch through a landscape defined by mature trees, meandering water hazards, and pockets of undulating terrain that demand thoughtful shot-making and strategy. This semi-private facility welcomes players seeking quality golf in an approachable yet strategically rich setting.

The Cypress course takes players on a journey through towering cypress groves and an array of water features that come into play on most holes. Its design emphasizes risk-reward relationships; tightly defined fairways favor precision, while doglegs and well-placed bunkers test course management skills. The Waterway course, in contrast, is characterized by slightly wider corridors but continues to engage golfers with subtle elevation changes and creek crossings that influence club selection and shot planning.

Fairways maintain a good playing surface throughout the year, though heavy traffic can create worn spots, so early tee times are recommended for the best conditions. Greens present a variety of contours and tend to be on the firmer side, demanding careful attention to pace over their sometimes sluggish, thick putting surfaces. Bunkers frame key landing zones and greenside areas, often guarded by encroaching rough and grass reinforcements, encouraging a strong short game.

Players of all skill levels will find Arrowhead rewarding; aggressive drivers of the ball can capitalize on scoring chances with well-executed long shots, while conservative players are not harshly penalized for erring on the side of caution. The practice facilities, including a driving range and putting greens, are well-maintained and perfect for warm-up or fine-tuning before rounds.

The clubhouse offers straightforward, friendly service and a casual restaurant environment that reflects the community spirit. Golf carts are available, but walking is encouraged during the cooler seasons, especially on the flatter Waterway course. Overall, Arrowhead Country Club balances competitive golf with an accessible approach, making it a solid choice for visitors wanting a true Myrtle Beach golf experience without the hassle and high price of many resort options.

Course Highlights

The Cypress course features towering cypress trees and multiple water hazards that influence every hole, while the Waterway course incorporates subtle elevation shifts and strategic creek crossings. Both layouts emphasize shot placement and feature firm, contoured greens with surrounding bunkers that demand precise short shots. The practice facilities are well-kept, enhancing preparation for each round.

Cart attendants- 1 out of 5. Just tons of attitude and that harsh northern personality. They were very aggressive and God forbid you move the cart without their permission. They will yell at you. I won’t return to this course based on the attendants alone. Fairways- 4 out of 5. This course sees a lot of play and while the fairways are good, there is some wear. Greens- 3 out of 5. These greens are sluggish at best, they feel very hairy and thick. If you’re looking for your ball to roll out on a putt, this isn’t the place. Bunkers- 4 out of 5. Some grass growing in bunkers but most are gorgeous. Layout- 4 out of 5. Mostly traditional holes, some severe doglegs. Clubhouse- 5 out of 5. Nice and simple check-in, fast and quick service in the restaurant. Driving range/practice green- 5 out of 5.

Played the cypress and lakes courses. Course in very good shape and greens rolled very well. Challenging course with water in play on most of the holes. Fairways were undulating and narrowish. A lot of doglegs with trees coming into play. You need to hit your spots. Staff very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to playing again. Wish they had GPS on carts

Play we to day with my 3 sons. My wife and daughter in law spectated. We played the The Cypress and Waterway The course is beautiful but deadly. Layout is hard and it whipped out butts but it was fun. We had such a good time together and being privileged to play this gem..

Everything about Arrowhead Country Club is excellent. The cypress 9 is as scenic a 9 I have played in Myrtle. I played the Dunes Club and Dye Course as well on this trip and Arrowhead ranked ahead of them for me based on conditions and affordability.

This course is an absolute gem. It’s not far from anything, it’s not too expensive, and the conditions were as good as I’ve seen at any public course. There’s a lot of ways you can play this course. You can pull driver and take risks & be aggressive, or you can take a safer approach to it and you won’t be too penalized for playing it safe. The greens were IMMACULATE, the starter (Dean) was the nicest guy ever, and 4 of us were done in 4 hours. A+

A first rate course. Plenty of water shots so bring plenty of balls if you spray the ball. I wish I lived closer so I could play this course more often!
