Gator Lakes Golf Course

Hurlburt Field, Florida, USAFlorida Panhandle

Gator Lakes Golf Course offers a parkland 18-hole layout accented by native wildlife and military aviation sights. Its approachable fairways and unique setting make it a compelling choice for players seeking an engaging round framed by natural and mechanical elements.

Course Overview

Gator Lakes Golf Course at Hurlburt Field, Florida, offers an 18-hole experience that blends military aviation culture with a natural Floridian setting where wildlife is as much a feature as the fairways themselves. This semi-private course presents a parkland layout that’s both accessible for mid-level golfers and engaging enough for those looking for modest challenges. The rolling terrain, dotted with water hazards and native vegetation, gives the course a distinctive character, with alligators often visible along key stretches adding an unusual flavor to the round.

The course's layout makes effective use of its surroundings without overwhelming players. Fairways are broad, inviting confident drives, though careful placement remains crucial as some holes border wetlands, demanding thoughtful shot selection. Greens vary in size and contour, providing subtle breaks that reward precise approach shots and sound putting strokes. The front nine tends to have some rougher patches in turf quality but gains consistency and pace on the back nine, where conditioning rises.

One of the signature experiences on the course is the 9th hole, where golfers share the vista with nearby military aircraft operations, creating a compelling backdrop as planes take off and land adjacent to a large body of water. The blend of water, wildlife, and mechanical motion gives this hole a unique rhythm and energy, inviting players to pause and appreciate the unusual intersection of sport and service.

Beyond the course itself, Gator Lakes features a well-maintained driving range with covered bays and advanced scoring technology, suitable for practice or warming up before a round. The clubhouse provides a casual dining atmosphere with friendly, helpful staff that reinforce the welcoming community feel of this facility. Visitors should note the base-access protocols and plan accordingly, as visitors require clearance through the proper channels.

Gator Lakes suits golfers who appreciate a relaxed pace and the chance to encounter wildlife amid their golf game. The course supports walking and riding, with a terrain that is manageable for most players. While the conditioning varies, the overall experience complements the unique location, making it an engaging destination on the Florida golf map.

Course Highlights

The course stands out for its local wildlife presence, including alligators visible near water hazards, and the striking 9th hole adjacent to an active military airstrip. The driving range features covered hitting bays with advanced golf software, enhancing practice sessions. While the course showcases natural Floridian terrain and a parkland style, its proximity to military operations creates a dynamic atmosphere unique among regional courses.

The course has absolutely morphed over the last few years. Under the current management I've seen the fairways go from not at all fair to excellent. The greens roll extremely well especially given this is a base course. Views are great, and the clubhouse has great food. My only complaint is the pace of play/golf etiquette IQ of the typical player. Overall excellent course

We golfed at Gator Lakes yesterday. The front nine was not in as good of shape as the back nine. But it was an enjoyable course to play and we pretty much had the whole course to ourselves. It lived up to its name because we saw beautiful gators on three of the holes. The one was right next to the "Don't feed the Gators" sign and I would've thought it was fake until it opened its mouth for a big gator yawn! Like most any golf course, be careful digging in high grass for your ball ... My man saw a pretty big snake. The 9th hole was really cool - the green is adjacent to where the military planes land and take off next to a large body of water. One thing I wish the pro shop would've told us is that GPS takes you to a gate that is not the gate where the visitor center is - you must check in at the visitor center to get your background check and a day pass to get on base - once we found the right place it only took about ten minutes (there wasn't anyone in front of us). I would golf Gator Lakes again for sure!

We enjoy the golf course. Needs a little work on the course, not alot of grass, but still is worth playing. We play there a couple times a week. And plenty of alligators for your viewing pleasure.

Great place for a quick 9 rounds. The full course is fun with some actual gators along the way. The greens are lacking with some bumpy weeds. The driving range is wonderful with top golf software.

This is an excellent golf course with outstanding customer service and a friendly, helpful staff. The value offered is excellent. I highly recommend visiting this place if you're in the area. The driving range is well-maintained and enjoyable, featuring covered hitting bays with individual range computers. The driving range also provides ample range balls at a reasonable price. Thanks Gator Lakes!!!!

Very “rustic” Great layout, lots of wild life to see…too include multiple varieties of grass (and weeds!) on the fairway and tee box’s. Very progressive, less about rules and etiquette and more about exploring boundaries… Saw multiple five-some and six-some groups… Oh, and don’t worry about being able to finish that novel, pace of play is slow and unregulate, so br Greens ok Fairways need some work Tee box’s need some work **updated CAO 10 Feb 24*** Greens are much nicer, tee boxes are showing some improvement as well…just played an individual scramble…sounded interesting at first, now Realizing it’s really multiple 8-somes…taking forever we may finish before dark!!! ***update CAO 20 June25*** Still the same, greens in good shape, Tee boxes show significant neglect… Still 5-some after 5-some…plus side, if you’ve ever wanted to play a round with 5 of your best friends, this is the place. Tee rimes are only a suggestion, but rarely needed. But, ensure you’ve allowed for at least 5.5 hours for your round…you might get done that soon. Best place for unregulated golf…no marshal and no enforcement…
