Watkins Glen Golf Course

Watkins Glen, New York, USAFinger Lakes

Watkins Glen Golf Course offers an inviting 18-hole public layout framed by expansive views of Seneca Lake. Its gentle elevations and accessible design make it a fitting choice for families and recreational golfers seeking a scenic, relaxed round in the Finger Lakes region.

Course Overview

Watkins Glen Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout that draws golfers with its striking natural surroundings and approachable design. Situated alongside Seneca Lake in upstate New York, this course presents expansive views that stretch over shimmering waters and rolling terrain. Its setting invites players to experience a true blend of recreational golf amid the Finger Lakes region’s distinctive landscape.

The course’s routing takes full advantage of gentle elevation changes, with greens and fairways carved through a mixture of tree-lined corridors and open stretches. While the terrain presents subtle undulations, it remains accessible for a broad range of skill levels, making it a welcoming destination for families, casual players, and those looking to refine their short game without overwhelming complexity. The layout encourages thoughtful shot placement, offering challenges without demanding elite precision.

Watkins Glen’s atmosphere is amplified by the often brisk lake breezes, which add an extra layer of strategy and rhythm to each shot. Players will find bunkers guarding several greens, although their maintenance has been uneven, which can affect footing and ball lies. The greens themselves tend to be more receptive, rewarding careful approach shots and keen putting.

Though the course operates on a first-come, first-served basis without tee time reservations, this relaxed approach lends itself to an easygoing day on the links. Golf carts and push carts are available, but walkers should prepare for some elevation changes and uneven footing. The course amenities include a modest clubhouse offering refreshments and a friendly staff ready to assist visitors.

Watkins Glen Golf Course distinguishes itself with its combination of scenic lake views and a course design that balances playability with moments of challenge. It caters well to families and golfers seeking a leisurely yet rewarding round near the heart of the Finger Lakes. Planning a visit here means anticipating a laid-back atmosphere, open access, and refreshing exposure to one of New York’s cherished golf regions.

4.5 stars. Yeah there were grass clippings sometimes. But for 25 bucks I got a nice challenging 9 holes of golf with beautiful views. I will return next year.

Beautiful, expansive views of Lake Seneca. The first-come, first-serve model of no tee times works - as long as the course is open. We found it closed one day. staff could reduce customer frustration and increase review ratings if it were to leave a clear voice message every day of what people can expect. At the end of the season, the greens were slow. Lots of ups and downs, and the push carts are heavy. So a good workout.

Not well taken care of anymore. Fairways had piles of dead grass clippings, bunkers are no longer bunkers, just tall grass. Greens are extremely patchy. Far more expensive than its worth. Nice clubhouse staff though!

The people in the shop and all that work there were very friendly. They had notes on the direction to the next tee. Great Views. I have not Golfed since 2017 due to broken arm and rotator cuff surgery. I SHOT GREAT TODAY. WELL FOR ME. GREATVTO BE BSCK OUT ON THE FAIRWAYS.

Great family golf course with excellent views of Seneca Lake. We've played here a few times with our now 6 year old. The course hasn't been super busy which makes it fun to let him hit a few drives and putts. Course was in better shape than our previous visits and the staff were friendly.
