Cypress Creek Golfers' Club

Smithfield, Virginia, USAEastern Virginia

Cypress Creek Golfers' Club blends parkland style with inviting water features across its 18 holes, creating an engaging and scenic test for players of all abilities. With smooth fairways, challenging greens, and a friendly clubhouse, it stands out as a welcoming course in Smithfield's coastal landscape.

Course Overview

Cypress Creek Golfers' Club offers a refined yet approachable golfing experience along the tranquil waterways of Smithfield, VA. This 18-hole layout combines thoughtful design elements with a natural setting where water and wetlands influence several holes, especially on the back nine. The course’s parkland-style routing weaves through open fairways and subtle elevation shifts, inviting players of varied skill levels to engage with strategy and shot-making without overwhelming difficulty.

Water features and marshy landscapes frame a number of holes, adding both aesthetic appeal and a steady test to golfers’ accuracy off the tee and on approaches. A standout stretch—holes 15 and 16—requires precise play around narrow corridors bordered by reeds and the winding river, rewarding cautious shot placement while showcasing some of the course’s most scenic vistas. The fairways are generous, giving mid to high handicappers space to maneuver, while the greens provide a medium challenge with moderate undulations and a turf quality that, while occasionally healing, feels lush and receptive.

Walking is encouraged here, with mostly flat, well-maintained tee boxes and fairways that absorb footsteps comfortably; a quality set of golf shoes is a good idea for maintaining traction near wetland edges. Golf carts are available but the layout and conditions make a pedestrian round enjoyable, particularly on calm days when the river reflects the sky’s shifting light.

Off the course, Cypress Creek’s clubhouse offers a welcoming atmosphere with a full-service bar and restaurant, favored for casual meals and socializing post-round. The practice facilities, including a driving range with real turf mats, support warm-ups and skill honing effectively. Friendly staff and well-kept grounds illustrate steady attention to detail, elevating the overall experience beyond the fairways.

Ideal for members seeking a peaceful, challenging but fair test, and visitors who appreciate golf connected to water and natural surroundings, Cypress Creek Golfers' Club balances playability with captivating scenery. Those planning a visit will find a course on the upswing, maintained with care and supported by a team eager to help golfers make the most of their rounds.

Course Highlights

Cypress Creek’s design features water-centric holes with wetlands and river edges shaping the back nine, including the demanding 15th and 16th holes that test precision around natural hazards. Flat tee boxes and well-groomed fairways make for smooth play, while the clubhouse offers a lively post-round venue. Architecturally, the course emphasizes strategic shot placement and the integration of water as a key challenge.

The course is in great shape, especially the greens. The greens are a good challenge but not so impossible it’s frustrating. The new owners are very kind and are running things right! Not overcrowded either like some courses that put tee times too close together.

A lot is going right at this course. A few things would make this course five stars in my opinion…Mostly revolving around the greens. Pros: Nice driving range layout. Love hitting off real turf. Great people and awesome bar and restaurant. Fun layout. #15, 16 are standouts to me, playing around the river and reeds. Very scenic. Tee boxes are all flat and well groomed. Nice fairways and the greens are plush. Bunker sand is nice and fluffy. Cons: A few (2 or 3) greens are healing up in certain parts of the green. Hoping next year they’ll look better. People aren’t fixing their pitch marks on the green . It’s crazy how many there are. I try to fix 3 or 4 every time. It’s a basic golf thing, please, just do it. Rake your footprints and please, OMG. Again, another basic golf thing. If you don’t take 30 seconds to rake the bunker, I hope your ball lands in a big footprint. Get some new driving range balls. Geese are pecking at some of the greens hard. Not much you can do there but something to note. Overall, great course and I would highly recommend it. Talking to folks who have been around a while, the course/restaurant/pro shop are all on the upswing with new management/owners and superintendent. Looking forward to some great rounds here in the coming years. I’ll be getting a membership here next summer.
