Ocean View Golf Course

Norfolk, Virginia, USAEastern Virginia

Ocean View Golf Course presents a welcoming 9-hole public layout in Norfolk, Virginia, featuring parkland terrain and accessible play for all skill levels. With well-maintained greens and strategic bunkering, it offers practical challenges amid an urban setting, ideal for golfers seeking a concise, friendly round.

Course Overview

Ocean View Golf Course in Norfolk, Virginia, offers a refreshing public golfing experience tailored to players seeking a solid round without pretension. This 9-hole layout provides a compact yet thoughtful test of golf framed by a straightforward design that emphasizes playability and accessibility. Unlike sprawling championship venues, Ocean View focuses on welcoming golfers at all levels, from beginners to those refining their skills, making every shot count without the pressure of high landing zones or extensive carry distances.

The course features a classic parkland style with gently rolling terrain and strategically placed bunkers that demand precision but encourage risk-reward play. Fairways are generous, allowing for comfortable tee shots, while greens are well-maintained, rolling true enough to test putting without leaving frustration in their wake. While the yardage is on the shorter side typical of a 9-hole course, the layout's subtle challenges encourage thoughtful course management and adaptable shot-making.

Set within an urban environment, the course provides surprising pockets of calm where the natural lay of the land offers visual relief from the city’s rhythm. Mature trees frame several holes, influencing both strategy and ambiance, particularly during the growing season when the foliage thickens.

Given its public status, Ocean View appeals to casual golfers, families, and visitors eager for an approachable golf outing without the membership hassles. The lack of a driving range and practice greens, however, is worth noting for those planning a warm-up before their round. Cart rentals are available and equipped with GPS systems, adding convenience and modern pace-of-play aids.

The clubhouse caters to straightforward needs, providing a friendly gathering spot post-round. Walking is allowed but golfers should prepare accordingly as the terrain features modest elevation changes.

Ocean View Golf Course balances simplicity with moments of challenge. It suits players seeking a relaxed but purposeful engagement with the game and stands as a welcoming entry point to golf within Norfolk’s wider sporting landscape.

Course Highlights

Ocean View’s compact design features well-placed bunkers guarding the greens and tree-lined fairways that shape strategic approaches. Its urban location offers a quiet escape without the crowds, while GPS-equipped carts assist in navigating the layout efficiently. Although absence of a driving range limits pre-round practice, the course’s accessibility and straightforward style maintain appeal across diverse player profiles.

06/13/25 The Friday 5:30pm mixer is so fun. I go by myself and just get on a team and have a blast for 9 holes. For 20 bucks, it's a good time. Played three times and always paired up with solid dudes. Great time on a Friday night. 05/22/25 They are running a 9 hole best ball at 5:30 on Fridays for 20 bucks per person. Played last week it was a blast. If you have a girl that can pipe drives bring her. 10/10/24 Stopped by yesterday to play 9. 26 with cart. They got new carts with GPS and you can take your score with it. Gives you yardage also. It's a nice upgrade. Fun coarse to play. Great fun for the money. The food here is so great and cheap. The course will be really nice in a month.

The course is really shaping up at the beginning of the golf season for 2019. There is a lot of grass on them soon as I start cutting down a little bit they will be really nice.

First time going to this course, booked on Golf Now app, showed up about an hour early like I usually do to warm up on range and practice greens. As soon as I get to the shop and check in I ask for range balls and the guy simply says there is no range in a tone as though it's common knowledge. The app and the site is not obvious about the course not having a range and what golf course does not at least have an irons only range. I felt the elderly gentlemen was rude and dismissive and so I simply canceled my tee time booked at a tee time at Cypress Point for $10 more, which also shows how the price for a short course with no range is not really reasonable when I was able to book at a semi-private club for only $10 more.

Well maintained with a friendly staff. Carts have GPS ranging to the hole which is a huge help. Highly recommend this golf course.

Course isn’t in its top shape but they’re very clearly working to be primo next year. People are great as well, will 100% return when I’m back in town.

It's not that bad at all. It's not a Country Club. It's a public, so very fair for the price. Folks were nice, too.
