Bent Creek Golf Course

Gatlinburg, Tennessee, USAEastern Tennessee

Bent Creek Golf Course delivers a mountain-style 18-hole challenge set within the Smoky Mountains, where elevation shifts and forest-fringed fairways test accuracy and course management. This public layout suits golfers comfortable with rugged terrain and rewards steady play amidst stunning natural surroundings.

Course Overview

Bent Creek Golf Course offers an 18-hole experience set against the natural splendor of the Great Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This public course invites players of varying skill levels to navigate a mountain-layout course where elevation changes and forested terrain come into play at every turn. While the surrounding landscape provides stunning views of the Smokies, the course’s design challenges golfers with uneven lies and strategic shot-making rather than straightforward target lines.

The course yardage stretches moderately from the back tees, providing an approachable yet testing track for those who appreciate the nuances of mountain golf. Bent Creek’s fairways wind through mature hardwoods and pine stands, framing holes with a rugged charm that encourages thoughtful club selection. Elevation shifts on several holes affect club distance, and several greens sit perched on natural terraces guarded by bunkers and subtle slopes. These features demand both precision and adaptability from players who wish to post competitive scores.

Greens at Bent Creek reflect the course’s natural setting, featuring contours that can be subtle or quite pronounced, rewarding steady putting and careful reading of breaks. The front nine generally runs through more open terrain allowing your tee shots to carry views across the mountains, while the back nine delves deeper into the forest, amplifying the challenge with tighter fairways and blind tee shots.

Players will appreciate the friendly, local atmosphere combined with a straightforward clubhouse facility that provides essential amenities without overwhelming distractions. The staff is known for courteous service and a welcoming attitude despite recent fluctuations in course conditions. Visiting golfers should bring adequate rangefinding tools and be prepared for intermittent cell reception, especially on the back nine where GPS aids may be less reliable.

Bent Creek is a solid choice for those who relish a mountain golf experience that balances scenic beauty with practical playability. Golfers seeking a test of accuracy and course management will find value here, especially when conditions are well-maintained. Those planning a visit should allow extra time to absorb the views and adjust to the unique terrain, making each round a purposeful mountain journey rather than a simple walk in the park.

Course Highlights

Mountain course layout with significant elevation changes, forest-lined fairways, and elevated greens; several blind shots particularly on back nine; panoramic views of the Great Smoky Mountains frame the round; approachable but firm test of shot strategy and control.

The staff was so friendly and helpful. The course was absolutely beautiful. The greens did play a little slow but that was due to the weather. The course layout challenges all levels of golfers. My brother and I played on Memorial Day and basically had the back nine to ourselves and it was amazing.

03/11/25 830am Eastern If I could give this course less than one star i would definitely. First of all went into the clubhouse 30 minutes before my tee time and was told by the very rude woman behind the counter were not open yet and there's a frost delay in a very hateful tone ( she also came in late to work in a beat up altima with a stink face on her face as soon as she walked out of her vehicle). First of all im a paying guest who is paying 76$ for 18 holes of golf ⛳️ on a course that was definitely not worth that at all. Next thing that happens is i wait until the 930am which i was instructed not to tee off until then i do hit a drive and then the person cutting the greens proceeds to cut the greens and i have to wait again . The bunkers on this course look beat up and terrible i am attaching pictures . The greens were not well taken care of and had some sort of disease breaking out on them picture attached also of the 9th green that looked like absolute garbage 🗑. Never again will i come back here very disappointed they need better staff and people to take care of the property they have

WHAT IMPROVEMENTS!!! WOW! I played Bent Creek yesterday, April 29, 2025 I am this course is in the best shape. I've seen it in, personally, in 15+ years! I went 5 stars Because of the massive amount of work that has went into this golf course. I am fairly local, this course has been available for me from any years, But I never had much desire to come and play here Because honestly... It can be a tough golf course, and if it's not in good condition, it's about impossible to score, and really not any fun. But now, even with the greens still healing a little bit from seasonal maintenance (airified), The greens roll well. I can't wait to go back in a couple weeks. The recovery effort they have made here since the flooding and storms from Helene (and a few strong storms that followed), has been amazing. Great Job Folks! I don't know what they have going on up there, or who's up there doing most of the work, but keep it up! I'll see you again real soon!

Pros: The staff is very friendly, and the course provides beautiful views of the Smokies. Cons: It is overpriced for the condition the course is kept in. The greens are overgrown and bumpy. Additionally, I do not recommend playing the back nine without a rangefinder, as there are many forced layups for which you have no good way of identifying the correct yardage to hit otherwise. Cell service is very spotty on the back, so the GPS apps are useless for determining distance. Bent Creek has been part of our golf trip for the previous two years, but I do not believe it will be in 2026 as the price is too high considering the condition the course is kept in.

Friendly staff. 3 stars because it was overpriced for the greens I played on. I have local 9 hole courses that have smoother greens. Would be 5 stars if the greens were taken better care of.

One of the worst courses I’ve played in a long time. Greens hadn’t been mowed for a long time. Holes hadn’t been moved and beat up. Leaking sprinkler head on first hole at green. Back nine one of the sprinklers at the green continuously running. It was like an obstacle course out there. Would not recommend

Positives- gorgeous area to play. The people are nice, and it accomidates well for most players in terms of play. NEGATIVES- The price of what you pay and what you get are ridiculous. I'm sorry, after paying $124 to play for my wife and I on our honeymoon and when we are told hotdogs are available after 9 holes, I would have thought that would calculated in the price for us to enjoy. Nope. So for 2 hotdogs, some chips and some candy, I think the $124 should have been plenty enough money.
