Bishop Country Club

Bishop, California, USAEastern Sierra

Bishop Country Club offers a relaxed yet thoughtfully maintained 18-hole course framed by the eastern Sierra mountains. Its forgiving layout and smooth greens make it accessible to all skill levels while providing subtle challenges for more experienced golfers.

Course Overview

Located in the eastern Sierra foothills, Bishop Country Club offers a distinctive golf experience that balances approachable play with scenic mountain surroundings. This 18-hole, public course welcomes golfers of all skill levels with a layout designed for enjoyment, not intimidation. The course’s flat to gently rolling terrain allows players to focus on shot-making without harsh elevation changes, while the mountain backdrop quietly reminds you of the vast wilderness beyond the fairways.

Fairways are wide and forgiving yet strategically placed bunkers and subtle water hazards demand attention and thoughtful course management. The greens are known for their smooth speed and subtle breaks, encouraging precision on approach shots and putting alike. Several holes gently follow the contours of small streams, adding a natural rhythm to the routing and providing pockets of challenge where a well-placed shot is rewarded.

Bishop Country Club’s setting is relaxed but cared-for, with well-maintained fairways and greens that reflect a commitment to quality without the pretense of a high-end resort. The course’s approachable design makes it ideal for intermediate players working to improve, while still offering enough nuance to engage low-handicap players seeking to fine-tune their accuracy.

Beyond the course itself, the clubhouse provides casual dining with a focus on friendly service and fair prices, making it a pleasant stop both before and after your round. The driving range features natural grass tees—a welcome advantage for those who prefer a more authentic warm-up experience compared to synthetic mats.

Seasonal winds can influence play, particularly in the afternoon, adding a dynamic layer to shot selection that keeps every round feeling unique. Walking is common and encouraged, with flat terrain that suits a leisurely pace; good walking shoes and hydration are recommended, especially during warmer months.

For travelers passing through Bishop or locals seeking a day of golf with mountain views and a straightforward layout, this club offers a solid, satisfying option focused on comfort and playability rather than complexity.

Course Highlights

The course features smooth, fast greens and several subtly flowing streams that cross fairways, challenging players to focus on placement. The driving range’s natural grass tees set it apart from many desert-region courses relying on mats. Spectacular mountain views create a serene backdrop without the distraction of steep elevation changes. Water hazards, while modest in size, often require careful attention, especially on holes with narrow crossings.

I come here frequently. I love the cocktail price, $5, the food and the view! I don’t play golf. Outside on the patio with the misters on is very nice. I have tried most everything on the menu, including breakfast. They make a killer Bloody Mary! Great friendly service as well. Plenty of parking.

The greens are fantastic at this course they're very fast for what I'm used to so definitely get some practice in before you go and it really helps. Watch out for the sneaky water hazards that are 1 ft wide streams running across often invisible watch your TV screen on your cart to make sure there's not water lurking. All the staff at this course are fantastic Love the restaurant and they have great food at really good prices. Tip get a soda before you're around and get a free refill at the turn. The senior price is really reasonable $70 for a round. I also like that the driving range is on real grass rather than mats.

Nice course, beautiful views and very nice staff. Sadly, the smokers discard their cigarette butts on the course and subject the people and wildlife to their filthy habits. So disrespectful!
