Course Overview
Amana Colonies Golf Club in Amana, Iowa, presents a rewarding challenge for golfers seeking a classic 18-hole layout that blends natural terrain with a strategic design. This public course stretches just over 6,600 yards from the back tees, playing to a par of 72. Its parkland character is marked by rolling fairways, mature trees, and subtle elevation changes that require precise shot-making and careful course management.
The course’s generous spacing allows a variety of shot shapes, while undulating greens demand a keen putter and an eye for breaks. Golfers will find the layout balanced - rewarding accuracy while still offering birdie opportunities for creative play. Bunkers and water hazards appear with purpose, framing shots and encouraging thoughtful decision-making rather than penalizing mis-hits outright.
Set amid gently rising hills, the setting captures a sense of serenity punctuated by occasional glimpses of the surrounding countryside. While not coastal or mountainous, the landscape’s quiet character invites concentration and a measured pace. The course plays well in all seasons, with spring and fall boasting particularly lush conditions.
Amana Colonies offers a welcoming environment suitable for a broad range of players - from those testing their skills on a championship course to weekend golfers looking for a fun yet demanding round. The layout’s features reward strategic thinking without overwhelming beginners, encouraging steady improvement.
The clubhouse complements the experience with full-service amenities, including a pro shop and dining options where players can reflect on their round. Golf cart rentals are available, though keen walkers will appreciate the walkable terrain and relatively open sightlines. The course staff emphasizes course upkeep to maintain fast greens and well-kept fairways, despite occasional weather-related challenges.
Visitors planning a trip are advised to bring a full set of clubs, including a range of wedges, given the variety of shot demands. Ample tee time availability and friendly local support make this course a welcoming destination on any Iowa golf itinerary.

Played here in a few college tournaments in the late 90s early 2000s. Weather was always miserable so never got the fair experience. Played for the first time in over 20 years and had beautiful weather. Course is in good condition and the layout is incredible - used most clubs in my bag from the tips. I forgot how demanding the greens are. Loved it, will be back in much less than 20 years. Worth the trip if you’re within a day’s drive.

Nice 18 hole course. Beautiful setting. The GPS carts suck, but that's the only downfall. Very challenging lay out. Bring some extra balls.

The company I work for does their annual golf tournament at Amana each year - it's always a great experience! Great service out on the course, and the course always looks amazing! Great place to golf!

Challenging yet beautiful course that definitely is worth the price point. Be prepared for undulation everywhere! The rain has removed all of the sand from the bunkers so be forewarned. Definitely some work needed on the divots throughout.
