Ruggles Ferry Golf Course in Strawberry Plains delivers an inviting 18-hole parkland experience geared toward beginners and casual players. With gentle elevation changes, well-maintained fairways, and a relaxed atmosphere, it offers steady golf alongside scenic views typical of East Tennessee's rolling landscape.
Course Overview
Ruggles Ferry Golf Course, located in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, offers an approachable 18-hole layout that welcomes players seeking a relaxed round amid gently rolling terrain and open landscapes. This public course caters primarily to beginners and casual golfers looking for straightforward play with few surprises. The style leans toward a traditional parkland layout, featuring broad fairways separated by clusters of mature trees and natural rough that frame each hole without creating undue punishment for less-experienced players.
Fairways are generally wide, inviting controlled drives, while greens roll true, though often noticeably slow, requiring careful pace control on putts. Players will find a handful of holes presenting moderate challenges through elevation changes and well-placed bunkers, but overall the course emphasizes steady shot-making more than complex strategy. The scenery invites a calm, undistracted focus on the game, with open skies and glimpses of distant ridges creating a subtle backdrop.
Practice facilities include a driving range, though golfers should note it lacks distance markers, which can mildly limit precise shot practice. The clubhouse offers basic amenities with a small snack bar serving handmade sandwiches, though the kitchen closes early afternoon. There is no alcohol service on site, an important consideration for those hoping to unwind after play.
The course maintains solid conditioning year-round, and staff efforts toward upkeep ensure fairways and greens present consistent playing surfaces, even during dormant seasons. Walking is an option, with mostly gentle slopes, but players might prefer carts given the course footprint and occasional elevation. Comfortable walking shoes remain recommended.
Overall, Ruggles Ferry Golf Course strikes a balance as a welcoming, well-maintained venue suited for beginners and those who appreciate straightforward golf without complex hazards or high demand on precision. It offers a refreshing setting for anyone seeking an honest round at a reasonable price in Eastern Tennessee, with pleasant views and a peaceful pace of play.

Fun course. Wish they had a bucket for the aeration waste, but otherwise a pleasant experience with beautiful views.

Ruggles Ferry Golf Course is a relatively nice course with a few challenging shots, but most holes are pretty straightforward. The driving range is a nice feature, though it’s missing distance markers, which makes it tough to practice accurately. The food is limited to some handmade sandwiches, but they were pretty good—just be aware the kitchen closes early; it was already shut down when we made the turn around 3 PM. Also, no alcohol is sold on-site, which might be a downside for some. Still, it's a decent spot for a casual round.

Basic course, boring for the other offerings in the area. Good for beginners, but not challenging at all. Greens were extremely slow, but rolled well. Pro shop employee didn’t have much of a personality, maybe just not a morning person. Won’t rush to play again.

Course in phenomenal shape for mid march. Fast firm greens and although dormant, the fairways were outstanding as well. Friendly staff.
