Ruggles Ferry Golf Course

Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, USAEast Tennessee

Ruggles Ferry Golf Course presents an accessible 18-hole layout set within the rolling landscapes of East Tennessee. Its forgiving fairways and well-kept greens make this public course welcoming for beginners and casual players seeking a relaxed round with scenic views.

Course Overview

Ruggles Ferry Golf Course in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, offers an approachable 18-hole layout ideal for golfers seeking a casual, inviting day on the links. Situated along the rolling hills of East Tennessee, the course opens with straightforward fairways that encourage confidence from the first tee. While the design leans toward the beginner and intermediate player, pockets of subtle challenge emerge through a few strategic hazards and varied green complexes that invite thoughtful shot placement.

The playing surface presents a gentle balance. Fairways remain well-maintained yet forgiving, with firm but receptive greens that reward precision without harshly penalizing errant approaches. Although the terrain is not dramatically elevated, the scenery unfolds with pleasant views of the surrounding natural landscape, including woodlands that frame several holes, providing both shade and a quiet sense of seclusion.

Ruggles Ferry is a public course that welcomes walk-in players eager to enjoy a relaxed round. The course keeps things simple but functional; a driving range is available for pre-round warm-ups, though it lacks distance markers, which could challenge players working on exact yardages. On-course amenities are modest, with a small snack bar offering homemade sandwiches, though the kitchen closes early in the afternoon, requiring some planning for meals. There is no alcohol available on the premises.

Golf carts provide easy navigation across the course, but walking is encouraged for those wanting a more traditional round on the rolling terrain. Walkers will appreciate the generally gentle topography and well-kept pathways.

Overall, Ruggles Ferry Golf Course serves as a welcoming spot for locals and travelers looking for a low-pressure outing. Its straightforward layout coupled with solid conditioning allows players to focus on feel and rhythm rather than punishing difficulty. While it may not offer the strategic depth or scenic drama of some signature courses in the region, it remains a solid choice for those entering the game or simply desiring a casual golf experience amid Tennessee’s quieter landscapes.

Course in phenomenal shape for mid march. Fast firm greens and although dormant, the fairways were outstanding as well. Friendly staff.

Ruggles Ferry Golf Course is a relatively nice course with a few challenging shots, but most holes are pretty straightforward. The driving range is a nice feature, though it’s missing distance markers, which makes it tough to practice accurately. The food is limited to some handmade sandwiches, but they were pretty good—just be aware the kitchen closes early; it was already shut down when we made the turn around 3 PM. Also, no alcohol is sold on-site, which might be a downside for some. Still, it's a decent spot for a casual round.

Basic course, boring for the other offerings in the area. Good for beginners, but not challenging at all. Greens were extremely slow, but rolled well. Pro shop employee didn’t have much of a personality, maybe just not a morning person. Won’t rush to play again.

Fun course. Wish they had a bucket for the aeration waste, but otherwise a pleasant experience with beautiful views.
