Centennial Golf Course

Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USAEast Tennessee

Centennial Golf Course features an 18-hole public layout that blends parkland terrain with a straightforward design focused on strategic shot placement. Its approachable fairways and subtle elevation changes make it a practical choice for golfers aiming to test accuracy and course management in East Tennessee.

Course Overview

Located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Centennial Golf Course presents an 18-hole challenge that blends a classic parkland layout with its natural surroundings. This public course unfolds across rolling terrain marked by mature trees and subtle elevation changes that demand thoughtful shot placement. The course’s design encourages strategic play, rewarding precision over raw power as fairways wind through a terrain that holds gentle slopes and occasional natural water hazards.

As players navigate Centennial’s greens, they will notice the course’s approachable nature balanced with moments that test even experienced golfers. The fairways, while generally wide, narrow near the greens where bunkers and undulating putting surfaces ask for finesse. The putting greens show subtle breaks and can become soft after rain, making green reading a vital skill for success here. While the course layout is inviting for beginners and intermediate players, low handicappers will find opportunities to sharpen their iron game and course management.

The setting is functional and straightforward rather than ornamental. Centennial favors playability, delivering an honest golf experience without elaborate landscaping or extravagant features. Seasonal conditions affect drainage, so it’s best to keep an eye on the weather forecast to ensure optimal footing and course conditions.

Amenities include a modest clubhouse with essentials where players can prepare and unwind. The staff, while sometimes noted for inconsistency in service, maintain operational hours accommodating early morning to late afternoon tee times. Cart rental is available, however walking remains a feasible option given the course’s compact footprint and manageable elevation changes.

Golfers heading to Centennial should bring comfortable footwear suited for variable turf conditions and prepare for subtle winds that occasionally influence ball flight. Planning a round here suits those seeking an affordable, traditional golf outing in East Tennessee without staging for premium resort-style offerings.

Overall, Centennial Golf Course offers a practical venue for steady improvement and a rewarding day in the fresh air, especially for those who appreciate a course where shot-making matters most amid a quiet, workmanlike landscape.

Course Highlights

Centennial is characterized by its parkland style, featuring tree-lined fairways, gently rolling hills, and strategically placed bunkers near greens. While lacking extravagant architecture, its strengths lie in fair challenge through elevation shifts and subtle green contours which require careful approach shots and thoughtful putting.

Today was my last round at this course! The clubhouse staff are not a bit friendly. You walk in and they make you feel like you are bothering them. No one greets you, even though there always seems to be three to four people standing there. If you get really lucky one of them might make eye contact. There is a younger guy that always seems to be there, (in the last 2 to 3 years I've visited) with longer hair and a beard who is very smug. He must have family that works there, otherwise I'm not sure how he's lasted this long. The course itself is a fun layout, but not worth 40+ bucks imo. Many of the greens are in disrepair and the cart paths could use some work. The tee boxes are also set-up very strangely. Red is usually women's tees but not at this course. Please please do something about your staff! People play your course to relax and have a good time, not be treated like an unwelcome house guest. Maybe some training to teach the staff people skills idk.

DO NOT waste your money at this run down course. The tee boxes are trashed and most of the fringe areas are all complete mud/dirt and are in desperate need of repair. What a waste of 60 bucks. There are too many good courses in the area to ever go back to this place. Clubhouse staff also needs some training on how to be kind. So rude.

Writing on behalf of my husband. Horrible service provided by representative. The lady at the front desk is rude & has no manners. My husband was 2 minutes early & she chewed him out for being late at 7:43 in the morning. Golf course is run down and not worth it regardless.

I like the track of the golf course if the course had a better drainage system for their fairways and I am not of fan of how the greens are as well and it is not good enough quality greens to putt on. Plus the tee boxes are extremely chewed up as well and not properly taken care of especially with the cart paths.

I will start off saying I love the layout of this course it is and has always been a really fun course to play. It does have it's issues as does most courses, the drainage is really bad it holds water everywhere. And the greens get really soft and have foot prints all over them and really bumpy if it has rain slightly tht week. But like I said it is a really fun course to play due to course layout. My issue is with the staff here, I have played here quiet a bit over the years and almost every other weekend this past year and the guy in the pro shop can be really rude at times. I was just playing there today and got online on supreme golf app and went to the course and scrolled to around 1:00 to book a tee time I had the settings on 18 holes and all tee times tht showed on my screen showed $32, to be honest when I booked I didn't even pay any attention to how much it actually was I just know tht all the tee times were showing the same price because I had played there many times and I knew it was reasonably priced so I didn't mentally acknowledged the exact price. I booked my tee time knowing the whole time if it was really slow, which this place is notoriously bad for, that I wldnt have time to play 18 because it was me and my son playing. But also knew tht if it wasn't slow we would b able to get 18 in. We'll we get there I pay for us both thankfully it wasn't at all bust so we made the turn about 20 til 4 so we kept playing knowing we wld get close to 18 but if we didn't the. We wld just get as many as we cld in because I know from playing there before dude wants the carts in by 5 no later than 515 and he is really anal about it. I mean I've worked at golf courses before and on the weekend people played til they couldn't see to play anymore, but I knew tht wasn't the case here from experience. So we make the turn and get on 11 and here comes a gut on a cart it wasn't the guy thts in the club house it's the guy tht washes the carts but he pulls up and says u need to go bak to the club house they said u ony paid for 9 holes I said oh I'm sorry I thought when I booked online it was for 18, he very rudely says no you were just supposed to play 9. I said again I'm sorry ill pay whatever I owe when we get through I know we probably won't get 18 in but I'll stop In when we get done. He says no u need to go bak now. So I drive bak to club house dude tht works in there is standing outside when we pulled up and says u all are good u don't have to pay anything. I said ok wondering why I had to drive all the way bak. And I said what time do we need to have the cart bak I'm sure we probably won't get 18 in thinking to myself especially now tht we had to drive all the way bak here for nothing, and he says oh if ur playing u got to pay to play u just can't play without paying. I'm thinking what the f**k r u talking about. I said I thought I paid for 18 when I booked it online I selected I wanted to play 18 and thts the price I paid, but I don't care to pay more if it's more I just want to play as much as I can before dark. And dude says for 32 dollars while laughing and looking to the guys thts was standing around outside talking like I was an idiot. I said I just know I told the app I wanted to play 18 and thts was the price it give which to b honest I have no clue what it actually was I said I assure u I'm not trying to cheat u out of any money. I've not once complained about having to pay more. I just thought I paid for 18 to begin with.
