Island Pointe Golf Club

Kodak, Tennessee, USAEast Tennessee

Island Pointe Golf Club offers an 18-hole public course where water hazards and a riverside setting create strategic challenges balanced by approachable playability. Set amid natural woodlands in Kodak, Tennessee, its thoughtful design welcomes mid- to high-handicap golfers aiming for a dynamic, enjoyable round.

Course Overview

Island Pointe Golf Club, located just outside Knoxville in Kodak, Tennessee, offers an engaging and challenging golf experience across its 18 holes. This public course blends natural riverfront elements with thoughtful design, positioning water as a defining feature without overwhelming the layout. Golfers encounter a landscape marked by generous fairways, scattered bunkers, and subtle elevation changes that invite both strategic planning and shot-making creativity.

The course's layout presents a balance of challenge and accessibility, appealing especially to mid- to high-handicap players seeking variety and options to manage risk. Water hazards frame several holes, especially the par 3s, where players must navigate carries over the Little River, elevating tension and reward. While the course demands a smart iron game, it remains approachable for those refining their skills or enjoying a leisurely round.

Surrounding the fairways, natural woodlands and rolling terrain provide a quietly scenic backdrop, punctuated by the occasional bridge crossing and river views. The setting subtly influences conditions, with breezes occasionally testing a player’s tempo, particularly on the afternoon holes. Maintenance efforts are evident, with greens that typically run true and fairways that retain consistent conditioning, though post-storm recovery has affected some tee boxes and minor course elements in recent seasons.

Amenities onsite include a welcoming clubhouse and a food truck stationed near holes 9 and 10, offering convenient refreshment during play. The course’s no-turn routing promotes steady pace but requires players to plan hydration and breaks accordingly. Friendly, attentive staff provide guidance, though pacing can vary depending on course traffic, so early tee times are recommended for those valuing a brisk round.

Island Pointe demands patience and strategy, rewarding those who engage thoughtfully with its layout. It is a solid option for Tennessee golfers seeking a public venue where waterborne challenges combine with an honest test of golfing fundamentals, all within a relaxed, natural setting.

Course Highlights

The course highlights include several par 3s that cross the Little River, selective water hazards that challenge both tee shots and approaches, and a routing that weaves through lush hardwoods and gently rolling hills. The absence of a turn creates a continuous forward progression, demanding rhythm and endurance. Island Pointe’s blend of natural beauty and strategic design elements makes it a memorable stop for regional golfers.

Such a fun track. Kudos to the grounds for keeping it up to speed. Not an easy course to maintain. Bring your iron game and play smart, she will reward you. Dec 28 2023 late review.

Update on course 9/14/24: Course was in great shape. No complaint’s on course conditions. The only complaint I have, the ranger kept pushing my son and I on the first few holes. Not sure why, as we were a twosome and kept up with the foursome in front of us. I think the owner or managers foursome was behind us and they had to wait. It’s kinda hard to play fast when there are several groups in front holding everyone up. He made the group in front of us let us pass. He didn’t push any groups in front of them, as we then ended up behind a threesome that was being held up by another foursome. Not sure why he was pushing us so hard. It’s not like anyone was going anywhere anytime soon. The course was wide open that afternoon. That is the only complaint I had about the course. He was still friendly, just pushing us for no apparent reason. I still recommend playing this course. This is a great golf course. The staff was very friendly. Course was in great shape. Greens were fast. Plenty of water around the course but not all of it was in play. Plenty of blind tee shots. The only issue I really seen was the bridges need a little work. There is no turn which is ok. They have a food truck between holes 9,10 and 12. I do recommend playing here if you’re in the area. Played 8/9/22.

worse golf experience i’ve ever had. first, they said to even book a teetime on the weekend you had to prepay on the phone. I explain that i will pay for 2 people but we will have 4 players. when we arrive 4 days later they had paired us up with some other two people and the guy behind the desk starts literally hollering at me, saying he was trying to help me. I was explaining we had driven along way to play. had it booked for days. then, when we get to the starter we explain they had sold our other players spots so they was moving a time slot around. he said the guy came to explain it to him. so he proceeds to try to offend me by calling the lady with me my grand daughter. i’m 45 years old. she is 42. it was obvious he was doing it on purpose. then the ranger starts telling us to hurry up on hole 4. when the whole course was oversold and backed up party to party. then follows us from hole to hole. by hole 6 i’m asking for a refund. sprinklers on the greens with no motion sensors, which i feel was done on purpose. so you are putting while getting a shower. they are the only course within along way. the course isn’t in terrible shape and a fun layout. . one par 3 is literally all tees 42 yards away from the flag saying they had damage from a storm.which i understand. even the kid taking cart returns had a bad attitude. you could tell the whole place is a bunch of owners friends and family who can’t get fired. like someone is mad they invested in the place and taken it out on the patrons. we met 4 other groups talking about how rude the ranger is rushing shots, and telling everyone to hurry along. i’ve never posted a review until today. DO NOT RECOMMEND! whole place has terrible attitude. municipal courses in knoxville ran by the city is easier to deal with. We were literally waiting for the course to clear before every shot with the ranger telling us to hurry every shot. I have read through the reviews and it seems like the course likes to give a rebuttal. can’t wait for mine! trust me, every word i said is the truth.

Course was in excellent condition with the exception of one hole (#3) but that was understandable due to flood. Course employees were all helpful and friendly. Will definitely play again.

The course itself is pretty cool and has a lot of challenges and water. Condition wise, it’s probably 6/10 but they are working to fix it after a storm. The staff inside were very nice and helpful. The owners seemed to be the ones working and you could tell they cared. Only a 3 star because our pace of play was 6hrs. Check on that. Otherwise, it’s a great course for a 15+ handicap. Under that you’d probably want something better.

Fantastic layout and fun to play. Overall very good conditions other than the greens playing a bit slower than I like. Some great backdrops and fun par 3’s over the river. Definitely on my permanent list of courses to play when I visit the area.
