Course Overview

Knoxville Municipal Golf Course presents an accessible, budget-friendly golfing experience in East Tennessee’s vibrant city of Knoxville. This 18-hole public layout weaves through a landscape of gently rolling fairways, bordered by mature trees and modest water features that add subtle challenges to each hole. The course offers a straightforward parkland design with generous fairways that invite a confident tee shot, while the greens demand precise approach play and careful putting due to their varying speeds and subtle contours. It is a course well-suited for beginners and intermediate players aiming to sharpen their skills without overwhelming complexity, though more advanced golfers will find areas to test their shot shaping and course management.

Players often find the split between open holes and those lined with trees requires a balance of power and finesse. The undulating terrain provides visual interest without steep climbs, making walking the course a viable option for those prepared with sturdy shoes and moderate fitness. While some fairway and tee box conditions vary through the year, efforts continue to maintain a playable surface. The clubhouse offers a welcoming atmosphere with reasonably priced food and beverages that ease post-round relaxation.

Golfers planning their visit should note the availability of electric carts, which are well-maintained and enhance comfort, though walking is encouraged to engage more intimately with the course’s subtle nuances. While the course is popular with local players, its open-access policy keeps it approachable for visitors exploring Knoxville’s golf offerings. The course’s practical layout and affordable rates make it a solid choice for families, casual players, and those seeking a leisurely round without extensive travel.

Overall, Knoxville Municipal stands as a community golf venue that balances accessibility with moments that challenge strategy and shot execution. Its friendly staff and genuine local flavor offer an experience reflective of Knoxville itself—a place where golf remains both a sport and a social gathering.

Course Highlights

The course features a classic parkland layout with several holes framed by mature trees, giving a measured challenge to drives and approaches. The greens present subtle breaks requiring careful reading. Notable is the balance between open, forgiving holes and tighter, tree-lined fairways demanding accuracy. Electric carts are modern and well-maintained but walking remains a popular option to fully appreciate the course’s layout and rhythm.

For a municipal course it’s actually pretty nice. It’s usually right around 30 bucks for 18 holes with a cart. The food is cheap and tastes good, the greens are in good shape. Fairways aren’t too bad either

Played here before and it has gone downhill since. Greens have chunks out of them most tee boxes are mud or have potholes. Price is cheap and the golf carts both of them died on the 17th hole. People were friendly and the parking lot needs a makeover last year! I would give 2.5 stars because of the staff and price.

Fairways are in great shape. Greens have many divots marks, some of which can effect ball path. New electric carts are fantastic and they do not have GPS which I think is better, IMO. Overall, much better conditions that past years.

I have never been to a worse golf course in my entire life. This course is an absolute joke. Not unkept at all. If this was the only course I was able to play on for the rest of my life I’d completely quit golf. If I was able to give zero starts I would.

The course did not appear to be in very good shape. Lots of dead spots visible from the club house. Had plenty of carts but I was told I would have to walk since one of our 4 some brought his girlfriend. I decided not to play and as I was leaving saw 2 single riders in carts. Never have we had such a horrible experience and we golf all over Knoxville without any issues. Will never go back.

Made a tee time yesterday 05/30 for today and they didn’t respect it and sent me and my girlfriend away because they didn’t have enough carts even though there was 5 carts out front.
