Course Overview

Olde White Oaks Golf Course offers an 18-hole experience that blends natural Appalachian terrain with a layout designed to challenge and reward players of varying skill levels. This public course, set in Athens, Tennessee, invites golfers to navigate a landscape marked by rolling hills, mature woodlands, and scattered creeks that play a strategic role throughout the round. The course’s terrain shifts between broad, forgiving fairways and tighter, more technical holes that test precision and course management.

Playability at Olde White Oaks balances accessibility with moments of genuine challenge. The greens, known for their size and undulation, require careful reading and a steady putting stroke, while the fairways, sometimes thick with grass clumps after rains, add an element of unpredictability that keeps players engaged. The 8th hole stands out as a favorite among locals and visitors — a par 4 with a tee shot from an elevated vantage point that demands both distance and accuracy, rewarded by sweeping views before the approach.

Despite occasional softness in turf conditions following rainfall, the course’s setting remains striking. Creeks weave through several holes, injecting water hazards that influence shot selection and strategy. The wooded perimeter not only frames the holes with natural beauty but also cultivates moments of quiet focus amid the sounds of wildlife and shifting leaves.

Amenities at Olde White Oaks include a well-maintained clubhouse and friendly staff who contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. Golf carts are available, though many recommend walking to take full advantage of the course’s natural rhythm and subtle elevation changes. Players should plan visits during drier spells for optimal turf conditions.

This course suits a broad spectrum of golfers, from newcomers eager to enjoy scenic fairways to more experienced players searching for a layout that rewards thoughtful play. The evolving improvements overseen by new ownership promise an even better experience ahead, making Olde White Oaks an engaging destination within the Athens area golf scene.

If your looking for a course with GREAT bones Its an amazing layout. Fun is off the charts.....Rocky was working is always willing to helping share local knowledge everyone we met were first rate. The greens and fairways although still dormant but this summer with a warmth will be spectacular the 8th hole from 300 hundred feet up was a blast (Go to the top and hit it) And as Hickory golf the course works well.....

Challenging course. Be VERY careful coming down the hill from the 8th tee box if the cart path is wet. You may find yourself in a predicament. The cart path is slick with algae when wet and the carts slide down the path if you aren’t careful. Fairways were a bit thick with grass clumps from recent rains and the greens were pretty slow and spongy. But still a good course and overall well maintained.

Great layout, excellent greens! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Fairways were retaining quite a bit of water which made for muddy conditions. Definitely play this course but wait til there has been a solid week of dry weather. 👍👍👍👍

Course with a ton of potential but lacking in a baseline of upkeep. Most fairways felt like roughs and the holes looked like they hadn't been moved in awhile. From what I understand they have new owners as of a couple of years ago, and some bigger improvements are under construction, just would love to see the general upkeep in a better place. The staff was excellent and carts were in solid shape. The course has a good feel and I would love to come back after hearing how they are down the line!

I very rarely leave reviews, but the course was not in great shape. The folks that run the place are super friendly, love the course dogs. It was really tough to separate fairways from rough because it was ankle high all the way through.
