Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club

Río Grande, Puerto RicoEast Coast Puerto Rico

Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club offers an 18-hole, par-72 challenge set against lush tropical terrain and Atlantic coastal views. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., this championship course blends strategic design, natural elevation shifts, and consistent conditioning to engage golfers of varying skills within a luxury resort setting.

Course Overview

Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club presents a commanding presence on Puerto Rico’s northeastern coastline, blending expansive Caribbean vistas with a demanding golf layout. This 18-hole, par-72 championship course unfolds over rolling terrain flanked by dense tropical foliage and glimpses of the Atlantic Ocean, creating a dynamic challenge for players who seek complexity alongside natural beauty. Originally designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course balances strategic routing with breathtaking elevation changes, providing a test that rewards thoughtful shot-making and precision.

From the first tee, golfers encounter a variety of hole designs that encourage adaptability, ranging from broad fairways framed by native vegetation to tighter landing zones protected by well-positioned bunkers. The course’s coastal exposure invites winds that subtly influence club selection and shot trajectory, injecting a layer of unpredictability without overwhelming casual players. Greens are consistently well-contoured, demanding careful reading and delicate touch around each pin.

The setting amplifies the experience, with holes weaving through natural wetlands, hardwood groves, and sandy outcrops. Several holes offer panoramic ocean views, notably the back nine where the coastline presses close, enhancing both the visual appeal and psychological challenge of the round. The practice facilities support thorough warm-up routines, featuring a driving range, short-game area, and putting green maintained to high standards.

Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club operates as part of a luxury resort complex, catering to guests seeking a resort-style blend of golf and relaxation. Service is attentive, and alongside golf, amenities include a spa, multiple dining options, and beachfront access, rounding out the visit with comfort and style. This course suits a broad spectrum of golfers: ambitious low handicaps will find compelling challenges, while mid- to high-handicap players can navigate the layout with strategic care.

Preparation for play should include consideration of weather and coastal winds, as well as comfortable walking shoes for traversing the often uneven fairways and native landscaping. Tee times are best booked in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to ensure an uninterrupted golf experience at this Caribbean gem.

Course Highlights

The course features varied hole designs that take advantage of natural wetlands and tropical forest, with several holes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Signature holes include a par-4 with a tee shot requiring a well-placed drive to avoid native vegetation and strategically placed bunkers. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course’s elevation changes and coastal winds add layers of tactical depth.

This place was so beautiful. Good looking area in general. We only came for the golf and that was very amazing! However, I did wish we had more holes along the beach. Lots of challenging holes, but overall not too bad. Highly recommend it, however, be prepared 18 holes, cart, couple sleeves of ball and club rentals will run you roughly $400.

We have yet to commence our stay with them coming up in one week, but I am VERY worried given their concierge and customer service’s lack of response. When I ask questions or attempt to make dining reservations, my emails and even Instagram DMs are ignored. My trust in their ability to provide a nice stay is VERY tenuous.

This place was stunning. We had a tee time at 2pm but decided to arrive much earlier to enjoy some lunch and the golf facilities. Everything was so aesthetically pleasing from the Clubhouse to the restaurants to the practice facilities and tiki bar next to the driving range. The course might have been the best shape course I've ever played and we were paired with another couple which made the round even more pleasant. Reaching the ocean holes at sunset was truly magical. It was an unforgettable experience overall.

Golf course was in great shape, would highly recommend. Very beautiful scenery, good practice areas. Very difficult from back tees, certainly not a "resort course".

This is an ok resort, but after having been to the Ritz Reserve and other St. Regis locations, I recommend you go to that one instead if you want a more personalized and beautiful experience. The overall style here is a generic sad beige “luxury”, and I found myself not feeling like I could fully relax. My favorite experiences were at the spa and vast golf course. They advertise a butler service, but ours would respond 50% of the time which is inconvenient when you ask for water or have to have your car ready by a certain time. Food was good, things were mostly clean, and having the beach is nice but be ready to be told you shouldn’t go more than 2ft in! Our beach view suite had a shared foyer in which they left dirty dishes out for almost a full day.
