West Woods Golf Club

Arvada, Colorado, USADenver Metro Area

West Woods Golf Club offers a 27-hole parkland-style challenge set against Colorado’s foothills. With three distinctive nines, well-maintained conditions, and a friendly atmosphere, it caters to golfers seeking variety and approachable strategic play near Denver.

Course Overview

West Woods Golf Club, located in Arvada, Colorado, presents a refined yet approachable experience over its 27-hole layout. This semi-private facility, known primarily for its three distinct 9-hole courses, offers a blend of natural beauty and thoughtful design that appeals to a broad spectrum of golfers. The course terrain folds gently through elevated fairways and tree-lined corridors, embodying a parkland style with a touch of mountain foothill influence. Mature pines and native grasses shape key holes, while panoramic views of the foothills provide a scenic backdrop that amplifies every round.

The three nines - Silo, Homestead, and Quarry - each present a unique test of golf. The Silo course is often praised for its undulating greens and well-placed bunkers that challenge precision, while Homestead offers tighter fairways demanding accuracy over length. Quarry, with slightly more open spaces, rewards strategic shot-making and thoughtful club selection. Together, these nines create varied 18-hole combinations tailored to different skill levels, offering players the flexibility to enjoy rounds that suit their pace and preferences.

West Woods balances playability with a degree of challenge without alienating mid- and high-handicap golfers. The course conditioning generally receives positive reviews, with well-maintained turf and fairways, though some players note room for improvement in bunker quality. Walking the course is encouraged; its gentle elevation changes and well-maintained cart paths make for a comfortable outing. Players are advised to bring footwear suitable for soft turf during early spring or late fall.

Beyond the fairways, the clubhouse serves as a welcoming hub, featuring a pro shop staffed by knowledgeable professionals and a casual dining option. The club’s management emphasizes pace of play, ensuring rounds flow smoothly for an enjoyable day on the course.

West Woods Golf Club stands as a solid representative of Colorado’s accessible yet refined golf culture. Whether seeking a relaxed round or an opportunity to test your accuracy amid foothill scenery, this course allows for a rewarding golf day just minutes from Denver.

One thing that really stood out was how well they managed the course and held everyone accountable for pace of play. It made for an enjoyable, smooth round without unnecessary delays. The course itself was in excellent condition, and it’s clear the team works hard to keep everything running efficiently. The golf pro was very helpful and professional, and the pro shop staff was very friendly. Although the Silo hole is my nemesis, I love the view from the putting green!

Too expensive for what it is, but could be great if the management would change the following things: - replace the sand with nice sand, it’s trash and it’s embarrassing. - stop putting the pins in the middle of a ridge or on the worst slope, spend time making the greens faster if you want it to be harder/better. It feels like the greens keeper got in a fight with his girlfriend before work and wants to take it out on everyone else. - put the ball washers back on the course, seriously what course doesn’t have this?? Really the carts should have the ball/club washer with a cooler on the other side. - get carts with gps and range finders, this is a standard now, get with the times. - the restaurant needs to stop their stupid policy of opening drinks before you go out on the course. They tell you it’s some liquor law but they’re the only course in the state that does this. Want a flat, warm beer by hole 3, this is the place for you. - restaurant has had the same menu since I worked there in 2012. There are 4-5 restaurant managers for some inexplicable reason, you think they’d provide some input on the menu. If you want to charge $105/round, fine, but get it together and make your course worth it, it’s so close to being the amazing course it should be. I grew up on the course, still live in the neighborhood, had my first job at west woods, have played it more than 100 times over the last 20 years. I used to consider it my home course; now I drive further away to play Legacy Ridge, Indian Peaks, Colorado National, or Fossil Trace because they’re just better value for the money.

Course is beautiful. However they charged us $40 a person for 9 holes, greens were getting aerated top dressed with sand. (same price we pay when we play there in peak season) Also bathrooms were closed on the course and no one informed us about that so we went 9 holes with no accessible bathroom.

Came in from New England. Brought my 80+ yr old father and my two 20+ yr old sons. Staff was very helpful, set us all up with club rentals. Course was in great shape with terrific views. Afterwards, Bobby Q went above and beyond in helping with a special request for my father. The starter was terrific, and then another employee out on the course helped with a group photo and was a complete gentleman. Highly recommended. Not far from Denver.

Cottonwood was in good shape. Silo’s greens still had punch marks, apparently left over from April according to staff. Was charged full adult price plus cart for my 6 year old because they don’t allow spectators under 7. Solid course rule to enforce. They don’t enforce pace of play, as I had to wait 10-15 minutes between each shot and I was playing with a 9 year old who was walking.(he also had to wait 15-20 between each shot) I did speak with one ranger who was very pleasant, other than that it was an experience I would like to forget. 6800 from the tips and can only hit a driver off 5 or 6 holes. Greens run fast and true. An easy course to score on.
