Course Overview

Rock Island Golf Course offers an inviting yet straightforward golf experience on its 18-hole layout, located in the heart of Rock Island, Washington. As a public course, it welcomes golfers looking for an accessible and approachable round without sacrificing quality or character. The course is designed in a traditional parkland style, with wide fairways bordered by native grasses and clusters of trees that provide both visual interest and occasional strategic challenges. Gentle elevation changes add subtle variety to the otherwise open terrain, while large, well-maintained greens create putting surfaces that reward careful approach shots.

The landscape here is calm and understated, with the Columbia River Valley nearby influencing the natural setting. Players can expect occasional breezes that affect shot selection, especially in the afternoon. Rock Island favors golfers of all skill levels with a layout that encourages thoughtful play rather than penalizing aggressive styles. The front nine is known to be more forgiving, helping players find confidence early. The back nine introduces tighter angles and slightly more demanding green complexes, rewarding those who have found their rhythm.

Golfers appreciate the course's solid conditioning, with fairways and greens reported to be consistently in good shape. The clubhouse offers a relaxed atmosphere and basic amenities, including a pro shop and casual dining options. The staff has been noted for friendliness and helpful service, enhancing the overall experience.

Walking the course is practical, as the terrain is mostly flat, though carts are available for rent at an additional fee. Players considering a visit should be prepared for wildlife presence, including local waterfowl, which contributes to the course’s natural charm but may require some patience during play.

For those seeking a comfortable round with a straightforward layout and a warm, laid-back vibe, Rock Island Golf Course presents a solid choice within the Columbia Valley area. Whether looking for a casual afternoon or a low-key outing, it stands as a reliable public option where the game’s fundamentals and natural surroundings combine with ease.

Course is okay. Front is definitely better than the back. The real drawback here for me is the pricing vs the quality. The cart fee per rider bumps this course into one of the higher priced courses in the valley, but it feels unjustified due to the quality of the course and the carts.

Relatively easy course. Laid back atmosphere. The only downside is the amount of goose poop everywhere.

Normally would rate the course higher but ball marks on greens are never fixed by most players and no mention of fixing them or replacing divots by the course. Customer service should be rated at zero because of morning staff!
