Hood River Golf Course

Hood River, Oregon, USAColumbia Gorge

Hood River Golf Course offers 18 holes of thoughtfully maintained public golf set beneath the striking silhouette of Mt. Hood. Featuring a blend of approachable front nine holes and a demanding, tree-lined back nine, it appeals to players seeking scenic challenges and genuine Oregon hospitality.

Course Overview

Hood River Golf Course delivers a straightforward, yet compelling golfing experience set against the dramatic backdrop of Oregon’s striking Mt. Hood. This 18-hole public course extends a fresh challenge to players of various skill levels, especially those eager to test their precision and course management amid natural woodland surroundings. The layout threads through a wooded environment that occasionally opens to reveal sweeping panoramic views of the iconic mountain, subtly putting golf’s inherent duel between nature and skill on display.

The course’s design emphasizes strategic shotmaking, with a notably challenging back nine that has earned recognition among local players. Golfers should prepare for a course that demands focus, especially as the terrain introduces tighter fairways framed by mature trees and well-positioned bunkers guarding receptive greens. Playability leans toward golfers with some experience, yet the front nine offers approachable holes where less seasoned players can find relief and rhythm.

Maintenance and pace of play are priorities here, though the course acts as a quiet retreat rather than a resort-style destination. Walking is encouraged and achievable, allowing players to connect more intimately with the unfolding landscape, but sturdy footwear is advisable due to some elevation changes and natural forest floors. Cart options are available, supporting those who prefer a less physically demanding round.

Amenities at Hood River Golf Course highlight genuine, friendly customer service, often cited by visitors for creating a welcoming atmosphere uncommon at many public venues. The pro shop and clubhouse provide practical on-site necessities without extravagance, maintaining the course’s neighborhood golf charm.

For those planning a visit, morning tee times often promise the most serene setting, while afternoon breeze patterns can influence play, especially on the exposed holes. Hood River Golf Course combines authentic Oregon scenery with a track that balances the practicality of public golf and the satisfying demands of a championship layout. Whether returning for frequent rounds or discovering it for the first time, players leave with a clear sense of accomplishment and an appreciation for golf in the shadow of Mt. Hood.

Course Highlights

The course is known for its challenging back nine set within dense forest patches, demanding precise approach shots. Views of Mt. Hood punctuate several holes, providing dramatic visual relief. The layout balances approachable front nine holes with a tighter, more aggressive closing stretch. Well-placed bunkers guard smaller greens, testing short game skills. Friendly staff and community atmosphere underscore the course’s appeal.

There were no signs telling us what hole to go . My cart partner and I got lost and detoured off the grid which put us behind 15 minutes. The back nine’s putting holes had bee’s in them so we couldn’t finish our game. Also our 18 birdies couldn’t connect to this course. This is the most difficult course I played but I don’t think it was worth the money.

Was supposed to play a different course near by but stumbled upon this gem. The owner or women at the desk was very friendly and helpful. She gave me a history of the course and was happy to answer any questions I had. I look forward to bring my friends here to play.

I love this place. I’ve been coming here about 3-5x a week for the past couple of months and there’s a reason I keep coming back. It’s affordable, almost never crowded, very well maintained (since I’ve been coming here), unbelievable views, and they are a no-BS business. Treat them with respect and they will reciprocate. If you know how to follow proper golf etiquette, you will not have issues with management. I see too many unwarranted negative comments on here.

Fantastic spot to get some rounds in. The back 9 is challenging, but the layout is nestled right in the woods, offering some great views and just an overall relaxing experience. Every time I visit, I have a chance to chat with Beverly or David, always great people to talk to. The pricing and location are excellent. Definitely recommend.
