Litchfield Country Club

Pawleys Island, South Carolina, USACoastal South Carolina

Litchfield Country Club offers an 18-hole, par-72 layout that combines classic parkland design with the gentle coastal breezes of South Carolina. Its mature tree-lined fairways and subtly rolling terrain provide a strategic yet approachable challenge for players seeking a traditional Southern golf experience.

Course Overview

Litchfield Country Club, located just a short drive from the historic shores of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, offers an 18-hole test that blends classic design with a coastal South Carolina setting. This private course stretches just over 6,400 yards from the championship tees with a par of 72, providing a well-balanced challenge without overwhelming players. Its layout reflects a traditional parkland style, defined by winding fairways framed by tall pines and mature oaks, with water hazards thoughtfully integrated to influence strategic decisions throughout the round.

The terrain gently undulates, allowing for clear sightlines while also demanding accuracy and shot-shaping skills, particularly around its well-guarded greens. These surfaces are typically maintained to favor reasonably quick and true putts, rewarding precise approach shots. Litchfield's character is shaped not by dramatic elevation changes but by the subtle interplay of natural elements such as coastal breezes that can test a golfer’s tempo as the day unfolds.

Playability suits a broad audience, from club members seeking a competitive yet fair challenge to visiting golfers eager for a course that respects tradition without sacrificing enjoyment. The course encourages thoughtful play rather than brute force, with risk-reward elements present but forgiving enough to remain accessible.

Beyond the course itself, the club facilities include a well-appointed clubhouse that serves as a central hub for dining and social gatherings. Members and guests benefit from locker rooms, practice areas, and a professional staff dedicated to both instruction and tournament coordination.

Walking the course is a rewarding experience, with fairly smooth pathways and shaded spots that offer relief during warmer months. The club generally supports walking, and golfers are advised to bring stable golf shoes suitable for mixed turf conditions.

While the club maintains a private atmosphere, its commitment to presenting a classic golf experience with friendly, attentive service makes Litchfield Country Club a distinguished destination within the Pawleys Island region. Its balance of strategic demands and natural beauty secures its place for those looking to enjoy golf in a relaxed yet traditional Southern coastal environment.

What a joke. 3 temp greens, regular greens aren’t any better, might as well be temp 2 putt rule as well. Great job Pro Shop on letting people skip to 10 when you got people coming from 9. $30 at best, not $70.

$45 course max. But its a tourist area For $92 You would think the greens would have grass not putting over dirt. It's a old course and definitely shows it age. If your down spend the extra $30-50 to play nicer course.

This course was honestly a dump. Tight fairways, every hole is a dog leg left or right. If you want your day to be ruined I would play here. Conditions were horrible for the price. Greens were good but very slow. Tee time was for 1 didn't get us out till 145, prob couldn't pay me to play this course again.

We hosted an employee appreciation day through a company-sponsored golf tournament at Litchfield Country Club and worked with general manager, Steve Shaffer. What a great day! Every person on Steve's team went out of their way to ensure our group had everything we needed all day - keeping a group of 65 on schedule and transitioning everyone smoothly is a large ask. I would recommend this venue and team for any large group events. I am very grateful for this experience!

Had a wonderful experience. Course was in great shape, and pace of play was within reason for a beautiful day in February.

I’ve owned property in Garden City and been playing golf all along the South Stand for 30 years. Litchfield CC used to be one of my favorites. That being said….Play anywhere else. First of all, the course isn’t worth $60. The fairways are dead, the greens are sand. Better conditions at $25 munis inland. More importantly, we’re playing twilight on a Wednesday, and the ranger decides he wants to chirp at us. It started at the turn when we had just walked into the clubhouse and he walks in right behind us to tell us to hurry up, even though ours was the only car in the parking lot. Then, at 730PM, as we are teeing off on the 9th (our 18th - they start you on 10 because the front 9 greens are trash and if they send you off the back there’s less chance you’ll stop play and demand a refund) - there is a league
