Dunes Golf and Beach Club

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USACoastal South Carolina

Dunes Golf and Beach Club presents an 18-hole championship layout along the South Carolina coast, where rolling fairways meet natural dunes and strategic bunkering. Known for firm turf and fast Bermuda greens, this private course challenges players with its evolving character, especially on the inward nine.

Course Overview

Dunes Golf and Beach Club offers a classic coastal golf experience on an 18-hole championship layout located just off the Atlantic shore in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This private course showcases a traditional design that harmonizes rolling fairways with the natural contours of the sand dunes and subtle maritime vegetation. The front nine unfolds with a gentle rhythm, where broad fairways ease players into the round amid the ambient calls of shorebirds and the whisper of the ocean breeze. While the early holes invite a measured approach, the inward nine gradually reveals more strategic options and greater challenge, with deep bunkering and undulating greens demanding precision and thoughtful course management.

The turf conditions consistently receive praise, with rye grass rough framing well-manicured fairways and Bermuda greens that run true and fast when in peak condition. The natural dune landscape acts as both a scenic backdrop and a strategic element, shaping shot selection as golfers navigate holes that test both creativity and control. Players of all skill levels find opportunities to enjoy this course, but the latter holes particularly reward those with a low handicap looking for risk-reward situations and demanding approach shots.

Beyond the course itself, the club provides a refined experience with attentive staff and comfortable amenities. The clubhouse offers a welcoming environment for members and guests to unwind after a round, complemented by a well-equipped pro shop and friendly service. Walking is encouraged, as the terrain provides a pleasant challenge and a better sense of connection with the course, though golf carts are available by request.

For those planning a visit, playing during the spring or fall months will generally yield ideal weather and turf conditions, while summer can bring the full force of coastal humidity. The course's design respects the natural environment without relying on extravagant features, making it a rewarding destination for golfers who appreciate thoughtful architecture and a steady but engaging pace of play. Dunes Golf and Beach Club offers a memorable blend of seaside character and traditional golf craftsmanship, inviting players to engage both their skills and their senses.

Course Highlights

The course is defined by classic coastal routing that respects the natural dune formations, with deep bunkers that protect varied greens. The inward nine ramp up in complexity, demanding precise approach shots and rewarding low-handicap players. Firm fairways and true Bermuda greens provide consistent playing surfaces. The club’s attentive staff and well-maintained facilities enhance the overall golf experience.

To be honest, the front nine (outward nine) was quite underwhelming. At times, I felt more like a birdwatcher than a golfer — the amount of bird activity was distracting and broke the flow of the round. The routing and visual intrigue simply didn't meet the expectations one might have for a course of this reputation. However, everything changed starting from the 13th hole. The inward stretch builds in character and challenge, and from that point on, the course began to show its true personality. There's a noticeable shift in design intent and landscape engagement, particularly on the finishing holes. I'd like to return for a second visit — especially when the greens are in top condition. I have a feeling the course will leave a stronger impression under ideal playing circumstances.

Nice course overall, fun track to play. Very friendly pro shop staff and the ladies in the clubhouse bar were great too. Fairways in great shape, but greens had some bare spots here and there. Also, looked like they had been punched in recent weeks, but almost recovered fully, just not quite. The 1st cut off the fairways was patchy in many areas as well with nothing but sand, which was odd given the niceness of the fairways. All in all an enjoyable round, but I dont think it's a $200 type of round $$$ wise. Several other very nice courses in the area with great scenery for far cheaper.

It lives up to its reputation. Nice RTJ design. Lots of deep bunkering. Sticky, rye grass rough off the fairways and greens. Greens were dormant bermuda (I think). Very true and fast.

Amazing golf course and staff. They know how to treat people and you’ll notice as soon as you pull up to bag drop. The course was in great shape and the greens rolled true and were fast which is what I truly prefer. I’ve played at tons of different courses and this is one of my favorites. First time in Myrtle Beach but already looking forward to coming back to play here again!

Course was in fantastic condition. Greens were lightning fast, which is great. Would have rated 4.5 stars because couldn't take carts in the fairway due to over-seeding, which wasn't really a problem except it slowed down our play and was tough on some of our "senior" players, adding a bit of walking. A few members were not very friendly on the course (probably because of the aforementioned slow down in play). Still a great course I would highly recommend playing.
