Course Overview

Set within the secure confines of Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, Hunter Golf Course offers a distinctive experience blending military history with a practical approach to the game. This 18-hole layout challenges golfers while remaining accessible to a wide range of skill levels. With lengths stretching over 6,900 yards and a par of 72, the course requires thoughtful shot-making, especially given the firm fairways and undulating greens that command precise touch.

The course’s environment is defined by open, gently rolling terrain typical of coastal Georgia, punctuated by scattered trees and natural marshland areas that shape strategic options on key holes. Golfers will encounter fairways that tend to firm up under the southern sun, rewarding accuracy off the tee but providing some forgiveness to those willing to navigate its subtle contours. Bunkers flank many greens, adding a layer of challenge without overbearing difficulty. The terrain’s inherent firmness often influences ball roll, encouraging players to adapt their approach depending on weather conditions.

Hunter’s service and club facilities reflect its military setting, highlighting efficiency and player support. While it is a members-only club catering primarily to military personnel and their guests, the welcoming pro shop staff ensure visitors feel prepared. Golfers should plan ahead to secure a base access pass, and once inside, walking the course is encouraged, with well-maintained paths and manageable slopes allowing for an immersive experience on foot.

Though the course bears signs of wear in some areas—such as sections of tee boxes and occasional rough patches—players often find value in its affordability and the understated beauty of the coastal landscape. Practice facilities support warm-ups and skill sharpening, adding to the overall appeal for those in the region. Hunter Golf Course offers a grounded, authentic round for players seeking a challenging yet reachable test of golf in Savannah’s unique military community.

Quite an interesting experience. The good, nice staff and tasty hotdogs. That’s it. It’s a goat farm. Greens are diseased and baron. Fairways are rock hard, not watered, full of weeds and with little grass. Tee boxes are basically sand traps. They don’t rape you in price but the best hole in the course is the driving range.

A nice place to spend an afternoon, however the course is in rough shape and the greens are a bit of a disaster. Lots of rough (if you're a hacker like me bring lots of balls!). Very reasonable price and again a nice place to spend a few hours.

On base, need security pass to gain access -so plan ahead by a few days & use online pass system to prepare access pass; priced right! Longer holes than anticipated… but forgiving on some holes to drive your spun 😵‍💫 spread pattern… but the greens are center target 🎯 only or they punish all ⛳️ transgressions! 🏌️‍♂️#militarygolfadventure

Played course 28 Feb 2024. The lady in the pro shop was very nice and informational. She made me feel welcomed. Only cost 13 bucks to walk 9. The practice facilities are about average or slightly above. As for the course, remember it is a military course so my expectations was not extremely high. The tee boxes need a lot of work and some barely have any grass. As for the fairways there are a few rough patches, holes, and dry spots with little grass. I saw no issues with the bunkers but the greens are bumpy in most areas of the greens with little weeds showing. I hope the base pours more money into this course and actually invest into it. I could see myself coming back to this course if I am ever in the area again.

The course was actually pretty nice it just rained, and the course was unplayable. Layout and greens were good. Just when it rains, there is no drainage, but it's Savannah and makes perfect sense. I'll be back to play on a dry day.

It is located within the military base. You must go to the visitor control center with your ID to get an access card. We didn't play golf and lost our reservation fee. It's better for business travelers not to try it even if it's cheap.
